I was wondering if the new Santa Rosa MBP with the 8600gpu can run DX10 in Boot Camp on Windows Vista?

    Support? yeah...

run well with dx10 enabled? probably not.

From everything I've read on here and other sites, DX10 kills your FPS.... badly.

Yeah, dx10 only looks slightly better. Its not worth the FPS tradeoff IMO.

The 8600M GT has DirectX 10 support, although I've heard nothing but the 8800 series handles DX10 that well anyway.

    Any 8xxx nVidia/HD 2xxx ATi or higher support DX10.

Whether they run it well, on the other hand... that's a whole 'nother story.

depends on the game. some games focus all their dx10 efforts to performance gain and it ends up being faster.

and some games like bioshock get a minor increase in visuals without damaging fps.

and all the rest of the games do basically nothing with dx10 and suck away 1/3 of your fps.

The 8600 cards (desktop and laptop) are crippled 128-bit cards that suffer at higher resolutions. Their clock speeds are also underwhelming. The DX10 capability of these cards is more marketing than function, as you would need to knock the resolution down to play any recent DX10 game comfortably.
