With a lot of great advice from the users on this forum, I got a 13-inch MBP last year after the WWDC. I love it, one of my best purchases ever. Thanks to all.

Well I am back again cause my gf is starting to have a red light showing on her Dell laptop and it has already has power issues where she cant use it unless it is plugged in. So that leads me to my 2 questions. I am trying to get her to get a 13 inch MBP. She wants to know:

    1) can she transfer her files (especially her iTunes) from her crappy Dell to her MBP with relative ease or would it be a costly thing that she might have to take to a computer store.

    2) I told her to wait to WWDC for a possible upgrade, and with nothing added to MBP, she is wondering should she wait a few months or another year til they release a newly Updated MBP and what kinda of upgrades would they be adding other than maybe a faster processor and some more RAM? Just whether anything really cool is being rumored that might be worth the wait of a year.

Thanks guys, yall pointed me in the right direction with my MBP and I hope you can do the same with my gf.

    1) There's a good tutorial on Apple's site: Switch 101: Migrate Your Files or your Windows System. Your GF can also opt to buy the One to One service for $99 when she buys her Mac. Then she'll get personalized service - an Apple specialist will move all her files for her, teach her the basics of her Mac, and she can get individualized help and training for 1-year from the purchase of her Mac. It's rad if you're new to Macs and can afford it. Otherwise the guide will help, and there are other online tutorials (google).

    2) The MBP line was just updated in April, so now is a good time to buy. According to previous cycles and history, there should be no new changes for at least several months. They've just been refreshed, which means it's the best time to buy one if you need one.

    Good luck.

I also went from a Dell to a MacBook Pro 13" - just a few weeks ago in fact. My first MAC ever.

You dont need to pay anyone to transfer your files. All you need is an external HDD to copy it all across.
I moved my iTunes from my Dell to my MBP with ease as well - do a search in Google and you'll find some guides.

In regards to learning the MBP, I purchased a book and read through that to grasp the basics. I found the book perfect - easy to read, plenty of colour pics with the text instructions etc. Taught me how to use my mac, how to set it up and change preferences, and so on.

Im actually selling the book now that I have already read it, so if you are interested here it is!

My man, the newest MBP is great and is just a month and a half old. If she needs a computer she should buy it, simple and short. If WWDC yields an updated version, oh well at least she still has a good computer.

    Good idea!

They look almost identical anyways, just give her the old lappy in the new box, give the harddrive a format too!

    Who knows the difference!
