    can the remote be stashed anywhere, like in the express card slot ?

    No :p. Don't try to stash it in the Expresscard slot (although the slot does look like its made for the Remote :p). You'll have to carry it around in a pocket or something.

    I'd love an all-in-one express-card/ssd/ipod nano/remote.

    You can lock your MBP to only use your one remote though - if that's any consolation.

    There is a third party remote that you can buy that you CAN store in the express card slot.
