I'm really curious if Apple will implement a new graphics card anytime soon on their macbooks. What are the chances? Is it worth buying the macbook pro now or should I wait?

It's definitely worth buying one now. I just got my mine yesterday. I'm totally loving it. Go ahead and make the switch.

Who knows.. they usually wait awhile before upgrading GPUs... I always buy a new apple laptop after a major update with a new GPU.

The next logical update will come when intel updates to the new capella plateform and possible quad core clarksfield cpu. These are due for a Q4 release this year. So anytime after October. But my guess is that they will probably wait till early 2010 to upgrade.

I guess with Apple ditching Nvidia, they'd look for another graphics provider. Intel's Larrabee could be their next choice.

Apple will definitely be switching graphics on their Nehalem notebooks, whether they keep nVidia or not. If I had to guess now, I would say it's going to be a switchable option with Intel's Larabelle and an ATI dedicated card. You can expect the next generation MBPs to come out spring/summer 2010.

Those who know ain't saying, those who are saying don't know...

The line seems set for the back-to-school market, any updates this month or next would be MOST unusual (more likely Steve will be pulling some sort of touch-screen "new Newton" out of his back pocket at a "special event" to come soon), so the next logical upgrade cycle would be for the Christmas market. Will the stars align for a refresh in Oct/Nov? Who knows, but I'm guessing that's the very earliest we'll see any changes.

they are gonna dump nvidia for awhile... so that doesnt mean just GPU... all the latest computer have nvidia chipsets as well, not intel. If they go back to intel ... they'd have to wait 15 years for intel to finally release video capability to beat a 9400M. I'd rather see them go with ATI chipsets, they have ones almost as good as the 9400M, and are working on new ones, they might have a new one out soon thats better.

    Agreed that no one knows.

Still, my educated guessing machine tells me intel chipset with ati graphics, or MAYBE ati chipset and graphics...

but then you are running an intel CPU on an amd platform, which is theoretically fine... but... meh.

I think Intel Chipset, Intel CPU, AMD Graphics. Maybe the 4670 or something a bit better.

Seeing as how an integrated GPU will be on the mobile Nehalem anyways, it's hard to see Apple completely forgoing it, given how amazingly power efficient it is. The MBPs are very likely going to use a switchable option between the GMA and a dedicated ATI or nVidia card.

I wish apple would implement what Alienware does so you can switch on the spot, AND also implement HYBRID SLI where you can run the dedicated and integrated side by side for more power.

That would be horrible, as the removable part will make the notebook much thicker.
