I'm finally finished with my semester so I can finally post here.

Anyway, about a week ago while running games on Windows via bootcamp, I noticed an unusual buzzing sound from the left side of the vent after the fans turned on. I've had my Macbook Pro for almost a year, but I'm certain it's not the "mooing keyboard" problem that others have had (I had that fixed by Apple already). Well, the buzzing quickly got louder until it reached a screeching sound and quickly all noise from the area ceased. I'm afraid something may be lodged in the fan.

I've tried blasting some air in the vent and shaking the MBP to see if I can loosen whatever's in there, but it doesn't seem to work. I can only tell by running a game on Windows to make the fans run quickly (currently, there's still no sound from the left fan).

I don't know whether I should send it to Apple to fix or open the case and take a look... I'm sort of on a tight budget - if the 1 year warranty can cover this, I'll send it to them. If not, would this be a good guide to access and clean whatever's in there? http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Pro/Fans/85/8
My warranty is two months away from being over, so opening the case is not a big deal to me.

    Thanks for your help.

I would play it safe and just send it to Apple; it should be covered by your warranty anyway.

2nd zadillo's advise if the mBp is still under warranty, bring it in and have them check it out. Does it have the nose when it's running on adapter and battery? I believe it's your HD but bring it in just in case.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll be stopping by the Apple Store tomorrow.

I just checked it again and I can hear something, but nothing to the likes of running a game and having them speed up. I'm pretty sure it's the fan... I forgot to mention that after trying to clear out the vent that day, I ran some games for a while: it shut down on me and was unusually hot in that left area.

I also agree that taking it to the Apple Store is the best option. On a side note, blowing compressed air into a laptop vent is not the greatest idea. You can really mess things up doing that, not to mention that there is nowhere for the dust to go so it does no good.
