I just got my first mbp and when i load dvd it makes a couple clicking noises while loading the dvd. It might be the computer loaded the dvd into its correct slot but it could also very well be a broken dvd player. Is this drive supposed to load the dvd silently or does it sound like something is wrong with my drive? Any input on this matter would be great. thanks.

You're fine that is the sound the drive makes while loading.

That is normal -
Is it normal for it to give a little whirl when you turn the MBP on as well?

Noise from a Mac optical drive is normal. They all seem loud.

thanks guys.

I think that it is quite normal. By the way, you do not want to install a dirty-faced disk into your dvd slot
-
yes everything mentioned is completely normal.
and make sure not to install mini cd's in the drive as well as those disks with printed labels on them. i have seen some people get those stuck in these drives, and the mini cds are guaranteed to get stuck in there.
