Yesterday, everything was running smoothly. My MBP was churning away running Fusion with an instance of XP, nothing too major. Today though, the video is out completely. I can't even get to the option menu on bootup to get it to switch to a Boot Camped Windows 7 (the boot up screen doesn't even show). So... what do I do now? The warranty is out. Am I out of luck? Any tricks I can try? I do plan on taking it to the nearby Apple store to see what they can do. I vaguely remember hearing something about the NVidia chips burning out, but the thing is I wasn't doing anything graphics intensive to begin with.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :(

Edit: I even thought I might have dimmed the screen all the way, but using the keyboard to brighten it up didn't solve it. It wouldn't work anyway since even the boot screen doesn't show anything (not even the grey screen).

I just tried that with no luck. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to take it in to the Apple Store tomorrow to see whats up with it. Watch it be something totally idiotic...

that would be your 8600m burning out. same thing happened to me. Apple acknowledged that there was an issue with them and extended the warranty for that component, so don't worry about it. They'll replace your logic board most likely.

Sweet! Any idea how long the warrant for that is? I didn't get Apple Care (kicking myself now), so wondering if I'm covered for this issue at the least.

Thanks jnev, I think I found my solution: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

My MBP is out of warranty, but according to the article, it looks like for this particular issue it's covered still.

I took my MBP to the Apple Store yesterday, and they said that it highly could be the NVidia chip frying. If that was the case, they'd repair it free of charge. Now that it's 24 hours later, and I haven't got a call about it, I think they are going ahead with the repair. I'm itching to get it back...
