I wonder if the 500 samolians is worth it or not....another 256mb in GPU memory in the hight end model? I was under the belief that the 8600GT (similar to 9600GT) couldn't use more than 256mb anyway because it's not fast enough?

I'm thinking maybe the base model MBP unless someone can tell me why the 2.53 model is worth 500 bux? Any real difference in gaming? Opinions appreciated.

PS I was thinking about the 2.4 MB Alum, but maybe for my games one of the MBP's might be better

The chipset that the 9600 uses the 8800 chip (forgot the NV number). Unless the mobile chipset is gimped, it should be able to support 512mb fine. Though, I'm more familiar with the desktop variants.

That was the desktop 9600GT, and altough was based on the G92, it dam well gave it a run for it's money. However, the 9600M GT is a G94M part with 128bit memory bus, so chances are that it won't be able to fully utilize all of the 512MB, but will benefit from it.

I'm with yuio here, you want to game on a Mac? If you are getting a MBP to slap a Windows sticker on it and rev up your inner gamer, I would steer clear away from a Mac. There are a lot of other computers with the same specs.

Just gaming occasionally....strategy mostly...I will need to virtualize a couple vertical market business programs as I work for myself...other than that...video, photos, music...normal stuff :D

I'd get a Sager probably if I wanted an all out gaming machine...but I like the light weight to take with me in the field for work. And the looks. Plus, I've never had a MAC.
