Hallo, probably today or tomorrow i will change my current Asus G73SW (BB model with cripped GTX 460M) for a MBP 17 2011 (quad i7 2.2ghz and HD6750M, early version with the 900p display).

My previous laptop was the MBP 15 i7 2010 so you know after being mac user almost a year complete i miss a lot OSX (but this time i will not sacrifice performance, only the GPU but while i can play my games perfect), the only games that i will play will be TF2, Starcraft 2 and DOTA (when it comes out). The rest only photography.

Im reading in a lot of forums that the new model overheats a lot (Considering this is the first with quad core), is true? How performs on games? Any special problem which i should care apart of the Optical Bay sata port? (Reduced performance for Sata 3 drives).

Really after using Windows 3 months with my laptop i feel a bit strange, plus like i dont game a lot and i have the cripped GPU BB version makes me consider the change that a guy offered to me today.

Anyway when i receive it i will change the HDD for my SSD (best upgrade for a laptop i think so).

As i would like to start developing on iOS looks more interesting the change :)

    Thanks

There is no 900p display on the 17", only the 15"
    All the 2011 17" machines have a 1920x1200 display.

I have an early 2011 17" like you describe, and I do not have any overheating problems. When I game I make sure the back is propped up some, using a cooling pad, but I sometimes use it on the go without that and still have no issues. yes it gets hot when you push it hard, but it doesn't overheat.

No overheating problems from my 17" 2011.

In fact, it runs slightly cooler than my 2010 did. Fans are a bit louder, though.
