As most know, I have the 13" MBP 2010 BASE. I bought it in June and considering a 15" MBP with the new Core i5 base of course.

Is it worth it? I have a friend who will buy my MBP 13" for $1000. I want to buy refurb because I already used my student discount.

So the difference is $529. Also is it fair that I am selling my MBP for $1000? I am not over charging right? It was bought in June brand new. And I babied it to death.

It should go without saying, but that depends on a lot of things.

It is difficult for me to define value for you since we just met. I would say if the features the 15" MBP offers that the 13" lacks are things you think you would use or add to your experience, then go for it. If not, stick with what you got. At some point down the road you'll probably wish you went the other way cause that's life.

Considering that Apple has refurb MBP for 929.00 I don't know about the quality of the "Friend" or the exact config of your MBP but........?

Who can say what is right for you?
Your question sort of makes it sound as though everything is equal between the 2 except the Processor and that is far from true.

    Um...The MBP for $929 is a 2009 model with the 2.26Ghz and 9400m Graphics.

Mine is a 2010 MBP that has the 2.4Ghz and new 320m Graphics. For a refurb one, it is $1019.

Um like I said ,did not know the exact config of yours.

I will stand by my comment though,$19.00 more for a refurb from the mothership with the entire warranty.

I am actually looking at the same thing as you right now but I really need the extra screen for what I do.

Problem is I really like the portability of the 13"

    What to do?

    I say go for it.

The refurb for 1019 is not factoring in tax so it's more like 1100+, also the warranty probably still stands for your 13" being less than a year old; in my experience it's based on s/n# and not the name of the purchaser.

To be honest I could have gotten by with the 13" but was still thinking like a PC buyer and concentrated on the screen size and graphics (I usually turn off the dedicated). I think the only thing that would make me think about the 15" over a 13" right now is the processor. Unless you have a real need to upgrade to the 15" I'd say wait until it needs to be replaced as it should offer more improvements for your money at that point.

1000 seems ok to me. You can walk in to a Microcenter here in OC and buy a new one for 999 plus tax. Exact same model as you have. I had a 13 inch and bought the core i7 model because it has more video ram. I do miss the small portability of the 13 compared to the 15, but I just get so much more use out of the 15 inch.

I purchase the 13" at a Best Buy up here in Canada, and while I loved it, I realized that I don't take it out very often - it spend a lot of time sitting on a desk/coffee table/patio table while I clunk out course notes on it. So, I returned it and got the base 15", and I couldn't be happier.

As everyone here has said, it's all going to depend on your needs, and what you value most. Will you be moving the laptop around a lot? Is battery life more important to you? The 13" is a fantastic MBP, but for me, personally, the 15" was more fantastic. :D

I think there are four main points:

    Portability

    Screen resolution

    Power

    Price

Clearly the 15 beats the 13 in two of those areas. But you need to figure out how to weight each point... I find portability to be much more important than the power upgrade. I would like a higher resolution screen though. But the 15 is absurdly expensive. I would have paid $1300 for it.. but $1699 with student discount is still way too much for me for a little power upgrade and the screen upgrade. Not worth the whopping $700 price difference. If you can afford it.. and those 2 things are important, than go for it.

Figure out what you'll need. This isn't to say the 15 ISN'T portable.. but the 13 is ideal size wise.
