OKay, so i have only had my MBP 13 for a few months and thinking of giving my dell to my business partner. When i open the screen and then let it sit for a few seconds then attempt to open it a little more it squeaks and crackles sometimes like it was stuck in place. Does this happen to any of you and it is a problem that i should take it to apple for? Any solutions because it feels like i am going to break something sometimes when opening the screen a little more. Like a plastic rubbing against metal sound when something is too tight.

I have it, but I don't think it's that big an issue and definitely not worth sending off to get it fixed if it does not impair performance (which it doesn't).

i read or saw somewhere that its not supposed to squeak at all because of its unibody build... like its no longer plastic or something so it shudnt squeak? anyone can confirm?

But for heaven's sake be careful if you do this - that stuff oozing its way inside the chassis would not be good, and I've always found it very difficult to get a controlled and small spray from those cans.

I wouldn't try WD-40 at all on a laptop. That crap traps dust like flypaper.

I had the same problem the OP reported a few months ago. Within a few weeks of use it was gone and I've never seen the issue again. Call it growing pains and don't stress out about it.

Do NOT use WD-40. The squeeking is actually coming from the hinge assembly, not likely from creaking unibody panels. If you really want to try to lubricate it, I would try some powdered graphite poured LIGHTLY in the hinges.

No, we didn't. The OP posted a question looking for help, and if someone replies as a satirical or humorous response then that must be clearly noted.

It's like if someone said "just use some Windex" to clean the spots on your glass LCD screen..... makes sense as that product cleans glass, but this approach will ruin the screen. And what if an inexperienced foruim member went and did this figuring that people here are knowledgeable, but without knowing the catastrophic consequences, and then wrecks their screen -- who do they get the $350 for screen repair from when they thought they were using a reliable suggestion??

People come here looking for help, and we have to realize than many are not experienced computer types who might miss the nuances that go along with a tongue-in-cheek response and assume the solution must be correct :(.

You'd be surprised how many people would take that advice seriously and screw up their MB because of it.

I guess poster prefer the hinge to roar instead.
It is too wimpy for a Macbook to squeak.
Squeaks are more for the mighty mouse beside Macbook, then again maybe a mighty mouse shouldn't squeak as well...

I am amazed a Macbook can grow and develop from a wimpy kid who squeak to a slient strong adult!

My MBP13 squeaks too, its actually kind of annoying.

My theory is that the 13 lcd is too light and the hinge is too stiff. This is probably why the 15/17" models don't have this problem because their LCDs are heavier.

In case you are a total moron, don't do it. It was a joke. Anybody sane would realize that. If you'd actually use wd-40 on your macbook, you have more money than brains. In which case, I'd suggest you squirt some wd-40 into your ear to lubricate your brain.

Seriously, if a slightly creaky hinge is the worst thing that happens, you're not doing too bad. I had the same issue with mine and it went away within about a month. It's nothing to get your panties in a bunch about.

i will be waiting it out for a while and see if it goes away. it is not that big of a deal as my MBP still works perfectly. WD40 is out of the question!!!! C'mon son... you use that crap and then if something actually breaks.. you know darn well APPLE nerds will have something to say about it and void your warranty or waste my freaking time saying "your applecare that you paid $300 is void now". Then i would have a new MBP with a big imprint of a "APPLE Genius's" head in the aluminum cuz i would have beat his a$$ with it.

Could be worse, Just like when someone dings your door in the parking lot. Could be worse, but still annoying as hell.
