So i got my MAC, first ever, always slagged them off. I have to say I am impressed.

I want to play WOW on it, and because I am from the UK and play on US servers I have never had the Disks. I played from BETA and ordered a CD key from the states back in the day.

I am actually going to the US on Saturday and i will buy WOW and BC.

What I have tried to do in the meantime is install XP under Vm Ware (sucessfully) but when I try to lanch the copied WOW directory (which should work under normal circumstances) it gives a hardware error. this is due to VM using its own display driver. I tried installing the Nvidia driver under xp but it wont let me.

    A couple of question.

    1. Should i be able to do what i am trying to do under XP? If so how.
    2. I am assuming ( i have not tried) if i copy the folder to my MAC OS from my PC WOW will not work, it needs an MAC install?

Excuse the dumb questions, i am an Apple Noob :)

You would need to install it from discs on the Mac. It's a very different executable, even if the data files are probably shared.

As for Windows, I'm not sure if it's supposed to work with just copying the directory - I know EverQuest works like that, but I don't play WoW so can't say. I would still reinstall it from discs for a new computer, either way.

    Hi Shaggy,

Seeing the current trend in games, I would assume you need a Mac install. The days of being able to copy folders and having the game run perfectly are gone the way of DRM-free CDs. In fact, copying the folder from one Windows PC to another doesn't usually work anymore.

But, you should be able to move over your Interface and WTF folders that contain all your custom settings. That way, you will not have to set up all your addons/mods and in-game per-character settings again.

    Regards,

    Z.

Copied Wow directory should work without new install. It will actually register itself into window registry. I bet it will work if you do this under boot camp.
For VMware, did you enable the 3d accelerated feature?
But, even with this one, I am not sure Wow will work because it's not on the game compability list.
Once you get the install disk you can install Wow under OSX. But again, you'll get better performance under boot camp and win-xp.

The trial version is the same as the full version as far as the actual game is concerned. It's only the account types that differ. So yes, download the trial and you get the full game.

And to port your settings and what not from your PC verison to your OS X WoW install, you basically just need to copy the WTF and interface folder. Be warned also, that the patches ARE different.
Which means you have a whole other set of big ass downloads to go through (unless the d/l clients are updated).

And if you ever wanted to, you could drag your whole WoW game over to a backup HDD or another mac and play it. No reinstall necessary on either the PC or Mac version of WoW.

No...it's much better on the Windows side.

However, you may find that certain things run smoother on the OSX side. Install them on both sides and find out for yourself :)
