Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is a refresh for the MacBook in the works. I am considering jumping to mac, but I can't afford the $1200 of the MBP. However, I don't want to get a new laptop with just a core 2 duo. When can the MB be expected to get the sandy bridge processors?

Definitely check refurbished. You can definitely find a refurbished MBP13" for around your budget.

I rarely see any of the new white Macbooks anymore. If I do, they're older ones from 06-08. There are rumors that Apple might drop the white Macbooks. Most people would jump on the entry level MBP and forgo the white Macbook because they feel the extra 200 is worth the RAM upgrade, aluminum chassis, and SD card.

I bet it would sell like hot cakes with a price drop of $200 - $300.

Or, if you have a Microcenter near you, check their store as they are selling the baseline 13" MacBook Pro for $999.

Thanks for all the replies, so you think the best bet is a refurb MBP? I still can't decide whether I want a PC or mac. Wither way, the actual purchase probably won't happen for another month at least.

If you're interested in the base model 2011 13" MacBook Pro, be aware that the Micro Center deal for $999 is less than the refurb from Apple.

Is there an echo in here?

They have 23 stores across the U.S. (mainly skipping out on the middle states) so there is about a 32% chance that people reside in a state where a Microcenter is located. Still, since they have the baseline 13" 2011 MBP for the same price that Apple is asking for a refurb C2D 2010 13" MBP, I think driving to a store (so long as it is within a certain range) isn't out of the question. Hell, I have driven 90 minutes just to eat at a certain restaurant, 9 hours (4.5 hours each way) just to go to a 3 hour concert, and I continually drive 40 minutes a day to go to work. Driving for a notebook wouldn't be too out of the question especially since most people in the middle states are used to it.

Hey don't get me wrong I've driven across the US visiting friends who went to different colleges, and also live about a mile from the Microcenter in Chicago. Although I've never been there, I'm sure I'll stop by there soon

Wow I hope they never, ever drop the white macbook. It's one of the few "all white" computers that are white and I love all white computers because:

    1. They look cleaner
    2. Keyboard wear doesn't show up as much and looks much better
    3. The keyboard blends in with the rest of the computer (with laptops that have a light colored body and black keys, there's this contrast thing going on which I hate)

Aesthetics mainly, but that's somewhat important to me

I do think that the white Macbooks are nice and would love to get one. I just wished it had a matte display, SD slot, and a better CPU. As much as I like the smooth glass finish of the MBPs, I prefer one with a bezel that isn't part of the screen (ie the silver lining in the matte displays on the MBP15 and 17). Something that I wished Apple hadn't changed was the keyboard layout from their previous generation of MBP to the current one. I wished that they had kept the keys the same color as well and not made the transition to the chicklet keyboard.

I too wish that they would refresh their classic Macbook laptop. Hopefully it doesn't get dropped in favor of the MBA.

Check e-bay. If you're already a member, you should've received a $100 coupon which is good until 6/26. If you're patient and attentive, you should be able to win bids for the base model 13 NIB for ~$1000 (or if you're impatient, 1050). With the coupon, that's $900 (or 950) shipped, no tax.

I have a base 2011 MBP and have used the older pre unibody macbooks next to it, the old non chicklet keyboard does not come close, plus reading the keys is impossible in direct sunlight, I love my MBP's black keyboard, plus after some ware and tear the old keyboards just look junk and plastic-y.

I kinda love the look of the sharp contrast and in fact there is a reason for the black bezel: watch a video with it in a dim room, it fades into the screen, the black is so heavily contrasted that you don't see the bezel in use, it's just a screen with no bezel, plus it's a bit better on taste and gives a better fit and finish look to it. Please don't make this thing change, it's perfect as it is to me. That being said, don't be too surprised to see a Macbook Pro-light with a $999 price tag, just a different config, maybe an i3.
