I go to my local apple store today to see the macbook pros...and I REALLY like them...

    One thing got me though...

How does this thing ventilate? There seems to be no input...and I finally found the exhaust vent all along the back...but the case has no input vents LOL.

The macbooks on display were just running the OS for ppl to play with and they were already warm...I cant imagine how hot it would get playing a game on that powerful GPU.

    Can anyone comment on this?

I have a MBP and it runs warm when "idling" and hot when under heavy tasks. At first, I was concerned with the heat issue, but after researching the Internet, it seems that the MBP is meant to run warm/hot. I got a notebook cooler to cool down the bottom of the notebook, it helps.

I notice that the Macs on displays in stores get a lot warmer than they actually are in normal usage...I don't know why, I guess they've been running since the morning :D.

The MBP uses passive cooling, so it releases heat through the bottom casing. This does make it hotter but keeps it quiet as it doesn't need large fans that are noisy. There are fans in the MBP though, so don't freak out :p. Its just a bit of both.

The two large vents on both sides of the keyboard and through the keyboard itself is the "intake" for the MBP. The heat is then pushed out through the back vent which you mentioned. The computer itself is pretty much a gigantic heatsink as well considering it's completely aluminum so it gets very hot on the bottom. I'd much rather have the heat dissipating rather than staying stuck inside the notebook. If you plan on using the MBP on your lap, it will get quite warm. Don't expect to use it on bare skin. ;)

Yep, air is taken in through the keyboard I think. There's also a little hole on the right side of it. The casing also is aluminum so it absorbs the heat from the internal components, thus making the bottom much hotter.

I just picked up a MBP 15" two days ago and the first time I ran it, I had it on the bed with the rear vents partially blocked and it got pretty warm and the fans were on full blast.

But other than that in practice, so far, it runs pretty cool and extremely quiet. I've had it running on batteries on my lap for ages and it never got uncomfortably warm. The palm rest and trackpad are also cool to the touch. I'm pretty impressed so far by the noise and heat levels. It sure beats every Dell and HP I ever owned.

im pretty sure the intakes are on either side of the outlet, they are just not marked.

never heard of the keyboard intake thing before. would make more sense to keep the keys sealed and put the intake on the side of the outlet.

I think you mean "from ever since they left the box".

I'll say this again: Store displays are a horrible example for quality and build.
