This is the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on one right now, its completely perfect otherwise. But every Core Duo version iv used, got uncomfortibly hot, i'm not sure if this is fixed now.

The later core duo models run fairly warm at temps reaching 68 on extremes, and 50 while doing not so much (centigrade). Core 2 duos are even cooler.

I have a C2D MB. I've never found it uncomfortably warm, and I pretty much always use it on my lap. It heats up a bit during some use, like when I rip a big stack of CDs in a row, but it's never what I'd call hot.

My three week old C2D pretty much stays at 51 C all the time unless I'm pushing it hard. It will get up into the mid-high 60s and the fans will kick into jet engine mode and cool it down. I've been using it on my lap while wearing jeans and it's been fine. If I were wearing thin shorts or no shorts at all it might be a little too warm.
The palm rests have never gotten hot. The only hot parts are the far third of the bottom and the strip of metal above the keyboard before the screen's hinge starts.

Yours is a Macbook Pro though, he was asking for Macbook impressions :)

That said, I'll chime in with lbjazz in saying that my MBP C2D also doesn't get overly warm. Maybe we can lay to rest the questions people have about heat once and for all... oh wait, wishful thinking again. ;)

Well, i don't think people would deny, the first gen core duo versions use to get stupidly hot (over 80*C), they were boiling to touch.

But it sounds like with some revisions + the core 2 chipset, the problem might be fixed.

I've got a black macbook, as per my sig. I've got this computationally intensive task (iEatBrainz) that's been running for a few hours now (Apparently it's using 100%~ of one of the Cores). When it first started the CPU heat shot up to about 78 C, and then the fans slowly spun up to around 6200 rpm, and the heat came down... Right now, it's steady at 68 C, and the fan's going at around 5700 rpm. (noisy but not quite full bore)

Like the MBP, that issue was fixed in the CD versions. SMC updates helped fix the heat issues on the MB. When my friend installed the heat fix SMC update, it dropped the heat levels significantly.

What about the random shut down and the coloring on the white models? Have they fixed that yet?

You can count me as another cool running C2D mb user.
I did download the smc fancontrol program, but never use it anymore as I dont find the heat to be an issue, unless Im doing a large re-encode of a movie or other demanding task, which I never do on my lap so its a non-issue anyways.

Sorry but I had to laugh. I understand the concern about Macbooks overheating...mine doesn't (knock on wood) and hasn't for either of my Macbooks. It may run hot depending on the load/stress. Normally it runs avg/under avg. (~130F)

This is a non issue with the fan control software floating around on the internet.
