hello, this might be a weird question, but what is the DEFAULT:

    -Sound Effect (Alert Sound)
    -Text to Speech (System Voice)

in the MAC OS X 10.4?

errr.. thats strange... any1 with a mac can check that easily for me...

you can find this settings under SYSTEM PREFERENCE

-the Alert Sound is under HARDWARE -> SOUND
    and the other one
-system voice is under SYSTEM -> SPEECH ->TEXT TO SPEECH

Slow down, wobble :p. Haven't gotten to this thread yet. Anyways...

The default Alert Sound is Funk. And the default System Voice, I'm not sure, as I already changed it. I think its Vicki though.

The default System Voice is Vicki, but the Alert Sound is Purr on my iMac G5 and Tink on my MBP - I don't think I changer either, did I?

I remember with Mac OS Classic, the default Alert Sound was Sosumi, though that's not exactly on topic.

Weird, I have Funk on mines. I know I didn't change that. And on the iMacs I used at school it was also Funk.

Someone else could have changed the one on my iMac, but I really don't think I changed the sound on my MBP, it's too freakin' new :)!

    Sorry for the confusion wobble987.

AND...we're stuck :p. Time for more people to tell us what they got for Default so we can find out which one is right (or maybe both are wrong ;)).

Come on Sam, you're getting lazy, you should just reinstall OSX - just kidding :D!

Edit: Sam was correct in the original reply. I was at the Apple Store today returning a new Apple Wired Keyboard [that's another story though] and I checked the Alert Sound/System Voice on several Macs. They were all Funk/Vicki. Sorry for the confusion before :).

    Hah! :D Just joking ;).

So we've come to a conclusion, Funk and Vicki then. I wonder why they'd be default...Vicki seems to random...

I'm not sure why they chose Funk, but I have a little theory that Apple strategically choose a female voice for a broader appeal.

Have you ever used the Chat Now feature on the Apple Store's website? From what I remember all the people I've chatted with have had female names (not that those are their real names, but still). Since we've already proven today that my memory is fleeting I wanted to do a double check so I just used the Chat Now feature and got:
#1 Hi, my name is Latarsha. Welcome to Apple!
#2 Hi, my name is Lori A. Welcome to Apple!
#3 Hi, my name is Nadine. Welcome to Apple!
#4 Hi, my name is Jennifer S. Welcome to Apple!

Four female names in a row, a bit curious :D.
