Just installed Windows 7 on my new 15" unibody MBP. The audio output through the speakers is quite low, and realize this is a known issue.

Is there anyway (third party or otherwise) to fix this? How using external speakers? No low volume issues using headphones which is a relief.

    Thanks for any help/advice.

low tiny volume coming out of the speakers and the annoying glowing red light from the headphone jack.

i think apple sabotaged windows purposely!

windows 7 performs way better on my old win xp era HP junk laptop.

lots of hang ups and slow downs and talk about terrible drivers support.

the one that drives me nuts i just wanna put a gun to my head is the trackpad.

win 7 is practically unusable with the freaking trackpad.

so i feel your PAIN pal...

i dunno, i can honestly say that besides the volume, my macbook pro running win7 64 bit has been quite pleasant with no issues worth mentioning.

I had plenty of issues with sound when running any version of windows. I've got 13" with curris sound card drivers. What it is, is that apple did a bo-bo and made the output -16db or so and the headphone level normal. This can be swapped by applying a patch. I did find out on the net and it worked absolutly perfect and my sound in windows is loud, at least as loud as OS X and works better, with options to use the optical out and the red light is no longer on.

Other issues... Trackpad still well sensitive and keyboard brightness still gets stuck every so often.

Will try to find the site with the patch on it; will get back to you.

This will only work for the cirrus sound hardware, so in device manager, make sure you have it showing beefore updating it using this one, otherwise it may not work.

Wow that is really interesting! I'll be sure to give it a try this weekend.

Have you or anyone else confirmed this works with 7?

This def works with Win 7, even though it says XP, but it makes a huge difference and I can finally use win 7 for some gaming with loud sound.

I'm using Win7 x64 and i can't seem to get the drivers from that website to install.

I'm going to through Device Manager -> Sound ->selecting Cirrus Logic CS4206A -> Update Driver, then pointing to the extracted folder where the new driver resides, but i an error message saying that it "could not find a compatible driver for this device, please make sure it is designed to work with x64 based systems"...

I've tried every method i can think of via Device Manager to install this that i can think of.

    Any ideas?

As I'm using the 32 bit version of Win 7 I'd say that the driver is only 32 bit. It took me a long time to find that one, so I don't know of a 64bit fix. Sorry.

I came back and was going to suggest the exact same fix. It works. I don't believe even with that volume fix that the sound quality under Windows is as good as it sounds in OSX, but it's certainly good enough for now, and im a happy camper as a result.

@pjshots - Thanks for your help, i eventually found my own path towards the solution thanks to the link you provided earlier.

There's no doubt about it. ;)

No probs.... Will keep a copy of that x64 version; good to have it handy. Maybe someone should post it to Apple and outline their mistakes.
