Love the new Penryn MBP but ALMOST tempted to give it back :(

I type hard and I type fast. Unfortunately, it seems as though I type TOO fast for OS X, if that's possible. I think - from doing a bit of research - that this is due in part to the Quartz smoothing that is done per pixel, hence there is a 'lag.' Do not tell me there isn't, there is!

I do not have this problem on Thinkpad keyboards.

Also, I think the IBM keyboards have greater bounce/spring to them, and are a bit deeper, hence allowing you to hit them harder.

It sucks, because I LOVE OS X - yes, I have made it crash a few times but it's extremely robust - but I also love to write.

I hated the MB keyboard, too. Wish I had the keyboard of the Thinkpad but Mac OS X...

Have you tried adjusting the keyboard response rate in System Preferences? That might help :).

Otherwise, you may also want to try the MacBook keyboard, see if you prefer that one! I know I do!

Is there ANY way to speed up the typing? Yes, I've set the repeat and delay rates to be as fast as possible in System Preferences, but it's still not fast enough! :(

Actually, I prefer the larger screen for design work and coding, and also the contoured shape of the MBP keys...and it's just oh so nice!

Love the Mac, though. Any software out there to alleviate my problem?

I think there is a hardware problem with your Mac. I do not experience any delays in my typing, even when I run my finger accross the keyboard. You should take it to an Apple store if the problem is obvious.

Have you migrate from and old system?

In this case you will have some Kext from your old system doing its job, and producing some delays.

Check all the Kext loaded and the possible process with PPC on it.

    Regards

I'm a bit of touch typist myself and never observed the problems you are talking about. In fact, at the office I use the new aluminum Apple keyboard with an even lighter touch than any of the Mac keyboards. In fact, it reminds me ever so much of the Macbook Air keyboard. Never had a problem with typing too fast and losing characters or keys not registering with the computer.

I tend to think it may be an issue with your keyboard. I would have it checked.

You made OS X crash? Impressive. Even I haven't done that in about half a year (well, since Logitech fixed their junky mouse drivers late 2007).

I too have not experienced the laggy typing as you suggest.

I've not noticed any lag while typing. I have, however, had OSX crash. Although it hasn't happened often, when it did it was in conjunction with crashing applications (which are a bi-weekly, if not daily) occurrence.
