First off, I have to say that I am in awe of this machine. I have been having so much fun exploring and setting things up. I am very happy with it.

The problem I'm having is with network printing. I have a dell desktop with a Canon S520 attached to it. We have a home network set up and all our other computers can print to it. I've checked all the configurations, etc. My MBP can see the printer but when I try to print I get "printer stop" errors. I've tried everything. I read on another forum about using ghostscript...but the process seems pretty complicated. I've scoured the web but I just get more confused. Any ideas?

I've also read about the electric static/shock issue. That made me curious because last night when I went to bed after using the MBP for a few hours my forearm hurt - it felt like a burn but it wasn't a burn and was only sensitive on the skin - not like a bruise. Now I'm a bit concerned.

Again, any thoughts on this? Thanks. I definitely love this machine -

So the problem with the printer is a driver issue. What you have to do is look and see what equivalent Canon driver is packaged with OS X. For instance, I have a Canon i860 and use the Canon BJC-7000-GIMP driver that is already packaged with OS X since there is no i860 network driver.

I am also thinking of buying an MacBook Pro (2.16 with 2GB RAM) real soon. What kind of battery life can I expect doing office work and WiFi on ? I've allready seen it in the store. What a beauty!

Hi Cash - thanks for responding. I've looked through the list of installed drivers and they're all the Gimp 5.2 Beta - for all Canon printers listed. Using that doesn't fix the problem. I've tried the driver from the Canon website, I've tried other Gimp drivers...I just can't get it to work.

This might sound dumb, but are you sure you're not allergic to aluminum. It's possible anyways. I have read posts about that electric shock thing too. I've experienced it too after scuffing my feet over a carpet and touching my laptop sans power supply connected. But I wonder if it really can slowly discharge in the manner you described..interesting.

Anyhow, 2aguas, I have used mine for word and file maker pro and light surfing; with wifi on, bluetooth off, no music playing, best energy savings selected and 8/16 brightness, for a time of aprox 3.5 hours to 0% battery. My battery is 100% health with 7 cycles. I was using it the entire time, and didn't allow it to sleep or power down the lcd. When I needed to walk away for a game break I shut down, and restarted upon returning. That's my experience anyways,

Hi Jimmy - good question, but no, no allergy. Strange. I've read that it seems to be an issue for people more when the computer is plugged in than when it is unplugged - my outlets are grounded and I only plug in using the long extension cord. Last night I used it unplugged and had no problems - though things still felt a little "tingly".

It's ok - though. I'm 100% sold on this system and as long as it's not a health hazard I'll live with it.

oh, tingly.. that's a good description.. i've seen people post this elsewhere too. It's possible the ground relay inside the MBP is faulty..and also possible you have ground leakage on the outlet you're using.. I would try a few other outlets at home and elsewhere to see if you still get that funny feeling. You could also try un-grounding your connection. Lastly you could invest in a rubber suit or liquid laytex..just kidding =P

Try using the GIMP driver for the BJC-8200. It seems as though it maybe an equivalent.

Yup, call Apple if your getting slight shocks while it's not even plugged in. You have a bad ground in the unit. That could be a potential hazard.
Not sure what they will do though... Mine has that issue when using the 2 prong duck head.

I don't have that issue...but if you bring up litigation as a possible recourse for that issue, they'll be MUCH quicker to act. Because the litigation will most likely be a class action suit.

Apple has excellent customer service. They'll be very quick to fix it.
