    This question may have been asked multiple times already but is the cd/dvd drive on the new macbook pros supposed to be loud? Mine sounds like a small space craft taking off. I've only had it for 3 days and it's already my second one as the lid for the first didn't close properly and I don't really want to keep returning machines if these are just normal operational issues.

    Yes, it is loud...but depends to what degree. Its certainly louder than the fans, to me.

    The loading mechanism on mine is crazy loud (it was quiet on the 17" MBP I had for a day), but the actual drive reading noise seems normal to me.

    I can hear mine...but compared to other notebooks it is on par...I wouldnt say its louder than the rest by any means.
