Will the logitech z-5500's work with my macbook? If not what can I do to change that or can it just not work all together? Thanks.
-
Anyone have any tips or anything? Kind of wanting to know fast..
-
yes, it will work.
the Z-5500's have a digital input, a TOSLINK optical input and your macbook has a mini-toslink digital audio out/analog audio out (your audio out jack)
to get full digital sound you will need to get a TOSLINK cable with a mini-optical adapter, or a TOSLINK to mini-TOSLINK cable, which is very easy to find.
the only thing that will run at true 5.1 surround are dvd's run in dvd player that have a 5.1 soundtrack etc. or higher end software that utilizes 5.1.
but music, which is basically al 2.1 should still be up sampled to all the speakers and play back through all of them.
hope that answered your questions, good luck. -
So if i play music will i get the full 5.1 effect or not?

So that is what I need, what does that do and where does it go exactly? -
yes that cable should work, i don't think I would get it off ebay though, should be available in quite a few local stores, etc.
and will you get the full 5.1 effect? well the music will indeed play back through all of the speakers, but it of course will still act like 2.1 sound, with left and right channels, but will still play back through all speakers. -
lol sorry I'm kind of confused when you say it will act like 2.1 but I will get the 5.1 effect?
-
Can you show me some links where I could get that cable also?
-
Yes it will work. This is what I use with mines -
You don't have any special cables? Does it sound crystal clear and everything?
-
-
So would you say its worth the 200-400 dollars?
-
probably they are a very capable and versatile set of speakers. i think you might have to spend quite abit more money to get something noticably better
-
i would say yes it is worth the cost, for what you are getting that is a very good deal.

there is a cable that you can use, 9.99 right now i believe, so not a bad deal at all. it is kind of dumb that logitech doesn't ship the Z-5500's with a TOSLINK cable already, but that is always how it goes it seems.
thanks for clearing that up better cashmonee
