I have to make this message short because the wi-fi will turn off again any second. I bought a 15 MBP as most of you know already about a month and a half ago and everything was well until last Saturday, when the wi-fi went berserk. The only thing that happened that day was that I installed Hotspot Shield - however I uninstalled it because I didn't like the ads and it's not even running in Activity Monitor so that can't be the culprit. The wi-fi has been going on and off since Saturday. It connects for two minutes, then disconnects for another five, connects for one minute, disconnects for ten; etc, etc. I don't know what to do at this point. I've done literally everything. I zapped the PRAM and even reinstalled Lion and it hasn't helped. I tried pinging in Terminal but that didn't do anything either. Boot Camp everything works fine. On my HP everything works fine. On my iPad everything works fine. One weird thing that seems to happen is that when I open Network Preferences, click on "Location," click "Edit Locations," then make a new location, then go to "Advanced..." settings in the bottom right (after closing the locations dialog), then click on "TCP/IP," then click on "Renew DHCP Lease," and then click "OK," the wi-fi starts to work for about a minute or two. So that leads me to believe that whatever the problem is, it is in some way related to the "DHCP Lease," whatever that is. I really am not that knowledgeable when it comes to internet and phones and things like that, plus I just switched to Apple and have no idea what I'm doing.

P.S. I'm amazed that my Internet connection has held long enough for me to type this message, read it over, and submit it!!

Problem (apparently) solved, it turns out it was Hotspot Shield. I un-uninstalled it by moving it out of Trash, and then disconnected it, so now it is just sitting in my top-of-the-screen-bar thing (I still don't know what it's called  ) and doing nothing. I might as well leave it there, it doesn't get in the way or anything, and quite frankly I'm way too scared to try to do anything yet, I need to build up the courage and then maybe I'll try to dispose of Hotspot Shield for good. To anybody who wants to download the free version of Hotspot Shield: don't do it! It will cause nothing but problems!

How the heck did Hotspot Shield survive a reinstallation of Lion?

That's why they call it hotspot shield....the shield protects against re-install ;).

First time I performed a Lion reinstall, did it on my newly acquired 2011 Mac Mini. If you just let it go through the recovery console and let it do its own thing, it is not a clean reinstall - all the crap I left there when I was experimenting were still there. I saved the clean Lion reinstall files onto a USB drive and did a manual reinstall, had to manually run disk utility and delete/recreate the partition.

Your title is misleading - it's not Lion giving you wifi problem
