NBR doesn't allow discussion on illegal activity, and downloading copyrighted music without paying for it is illegal, sorry. So we can't discuss "how to download copyrighted music for free".

But anyways, no, most of the spyware that is found in some files on Limewire won't infect your Mac (providing you're on OS X). I do not encourage the use of Limewire though, buy your music somewhere legal .

Limewire is legal to use as long as you're not downloading copyrighted music for free. Most MP3s are copyrighted. Not all are (some Indie bands don't mind), but most music tracks are copyrighted.

If you're interested, here's a discussion at MacRumors Forums that is similar to what you're asking: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=205993

It also varies on countries as well. Canadian laws on copyright aren't as strict as US laws.

On that note.. I personally love using Itunes!

Before this becomes a "which P2P do you use?" thread, please remember downloading copyrighted music for free is illegal and if that's what you're doing (not pointing fingers at anyone) then you can't discuss it here at NBR.

I prefer purchasing my music on iTunes.

I have a question, is it OK to download copyrighted movies for free :p?

But yeah, I use Limewire atm and it doesn't have a noticable impact on the performance of my MB. It does all depend on how much RAM you have, though, and with 2GB normal apps will run just fine on your Mac. Frostwire is worth taking a look at, very nice application.

I will admit, I use torrents, frostwire/limewire and other p2p clients, but I use it to download anime fansubs, and such, not much on the music, if I want music, there is a little thing called youtube. =P

Depends on the country you're in and their laws, and where the copyright of the movie was from. In the US, it's technically not lawful to do so.
