Now with the 3G iphone out of the way, what do all the gossip sites have to left to gossip about???
The new macbook of corse !
The lastest rumour comes via 9to5 mac via computerworld

There "guess"tamate is a glass touch pad, different screen sizes, lighter and more like a mba... all before the end of september.
My guess is that between now and september there will be a "new" rumour every second day.

Not until Sept??? Damn, I don't know if I can wait that long to get my MBP.

With the rumored updates, would you say it is worth it to wait? I guess I can wait if the new ones are going to be that much better...but a glass trackpad and thinner design? If that's all it is, I think I'll go ahead and buy now.

Glass touchpad...I don't see why they would need glass over it, unless they're planning to have a screen under it? But its exciting to hear!

I'm gonna guess Montevina, LED backlight and multi-touch added to the macbook. I doubt Macbooks will go aluminum. I think Apple would rather keep a clear distinction between their low-end macbooks and "premium" MBP's

Perhaps they will finally offer blu-ray for the Macbook Pro, but I imagine we will have to wait for it to appear on the Macbook.

Hmmm.... a glass touch-pad. Sam, I think your right. It wouldn't make sense otherwise to have a glass touch-pad by itself. A small touch-screen touch-pad seems very plausible. Could it be that they are copying the Nintendo DS?

Besides that though, ATI Radeon 4000 series mobile graphics, finger-print reader, Snow Leopard, and last but not least, a docking station! I'm shocked that there's only one option out there for getting a docking station for a MacBook that costs a whopping $300 and its not even Apple that makes it.

Edit: I put Snow Leopard up there but I know it won't be available until 2009 or even 2010. Unless... Apple wants to mess with us. :p

While that's true, Apple also made a commitment to greener technology, and aluminum is very desirable for recycling while plastic isn't (which is one of the reasons according to Apple that they switched the iMac to aluminum), so Apple may just go aluminum with the MacBook, to fulfill that commitment (plus LED-backlit screens please) as well as round up the product line.

as soon as you take a look at a MacBook Air and MacBook side by side, you will immediately see the quality of th Air over the standard MacBook. The current screens on the MB are kind of joke when compared to the screen included on the Air, significantly brighter with much better viewing angles. I really hope to see an aluminum enclosure as well.

Whatever i heard is based on common sense (ipod touch sales, montevina just being released, and no updates to macbook in a long while). Also the college promotion could be a way for them to get rid of old macbook stock. Read something interesting on macrumors but it still is only speculation at this point...

    Matte screen!
As far as dates, don't you think it'll be around the same time Leopard came out last year?

They might go with AMD processors... quad-core's I hope. Intel's quad-core's kind-of-sort-of cheat in the fact that they have 2 dual-core die's whereas AMD's Phenom line has all four core's on a single die. Also, Intel is using the aging FSB to connect everything whereas AMD is using Hyper Transports to connect everything. This isn't to say that Intel's gear is bad. They've perfected their architecture style to push the limits very far and keep it cool.

It makes sense to go with AMD processors and chipsets since they are generally cheaper than Intel's. Also, Apple did say they wanted to offer "products at prices competitors can't match".

I will switch to MB if the new one comes out with led backlit, fingerpring reader, ...

I will never buy the MBif it comes with an AMD CPU, it is a sin for a laptop to have these processors ^^

    i just want:

    - led screens
    - backlight keyboards
    - dedicated graphics card ( at least a 9300GS or a better ATI card)
    - newer and nicer design
    - lighter chasis

I think the macbook is pretty good as is.
    I agree with n20nine:
...lighter weight (it's heavy for such a small screen)--likely meaning aluminum
    ...a backlit LED screen
If they lower the price, that's a bonus. But for me, the weight of the MB is the issue.

Never say never ;). AMD may, over the years, rise back up. Intel has a huge lead right now, but looking back, when Intel had the Pentiums, it was AMD that kept the market going.
