I installed Leopard on my MBP (2.16 ghz, C2D, purchased June 2007) and have noticed a problem with the performance of the laptop after installation. With Tiger it zipped open, everthing seemed to be a lot faster. Now that Leopard is on it definitely takes longer ot open and things just don't open as quick.

Is this a problem with my laptop or is this a normal problem with Leopard?

Thats weird, I have the exact same model as you purchases in april, and i installed leopard just a few days ago and it seemed slighly faster for me.

Did you do choose the erase and install option? if not, you might want to try that option this time and see how it goes.

How long have you had your computer on since installing Leopard? Leopard takes a while to index your HD, which might explain why you are experiencing a performance loss. Check System Preferences to see if there are any tasks taking up plenty of CPU time, or doing plenty of I/O reads/writes.
Another possibility could be that Time Machine is busy copying files over to your external USB device, which could eat up CPU as USB is CPU dependent.

Well, there must have been some indexing going on, or something, because everything is zipping right along now. Actually, I restarted things twice, and the second time things were back to normal. I was really scared that I was going to be cursed to the performance times of my Windows days. Thankfully, that's not the case - things are back to my wonderful Mac times...

Mine has been slightly quicker. As others have said, it will take a while for Leopard to index the hard drive for Spotlight.
