My bro recently upgraded to Leopard on his MBP but he needs to connect to a printer we have sharing on an XP desktop. Now, I know this is an age-old problem and I used to have a Ghostscript setup working on the XP desktop which allowed Mac printing, however my hopes were raised when I saw that the Leopard "Add Printer" menu had an option for printers on Windows computers. The laptop had no problem seeing the computer or the printers, but when I tried to connect the printer's driver was not available in the list (even though Apple and HP, the printer's manufacturer, said the driver did come with leopard). I tried another driver and of course that didn't work (the XP computer receives the print job but refuses to start printing)

So, my question is, does Leopard really make Windows printing any easier? How can I get it to work properly? Does anyone have a setup like this going? I mean, I can always fall back to the old way with Ghostscript stuff, but I will have to reinstall that so if I can avoid it and get it to work with standard setups that would be good.

Just install the HPIJS drivers. They support printing off a shared Windows printer.

So is that to say that the whole new "Windows" feature is useless in Leopard?

Perhaps it has been useful to some people who have their printers connected in a particular way, but if you just have a USB printer hooked on a Windows box with Printer sharing checked, then the HIJPS drivers are the way to go.
