I can't remember where I heard this... does anyone know its exact release date?

Is it even worth the update immediately to it? I still consider myself a newbie to Tiger in general... The features it does bring to the table do not (at this point) give me a need to update to it, yet.

Bleh, Apple won't tell us the exact date :p. But they've stated that they are on track for an October release.

I would say you can wait a few months for some Software Updates to be issued first...this is more a problem with Windows (Microsoft never gets it right until SP1 or SP2 ) though.

Thats what I'm thinking to do.

How often does Apple release updates to their OS's? It takes Microsoft aeons to release updates to improve the OS in general. It seems like a majority of their focus is just on security, rather than add new functionality. Does Apple add new functionality with their updates from time to time?

We'll get it when the Steve says we're ready for it. ;D

Apple releases .x.x releases every few months or so. They usually don't have much in the way of functionality upgrades, but sometimes there are. Apple also releases security updates and bug fixes on a more frequent basis.

Leopard will be fairly rock solid when it is released but it will have bugs. Don't get me wrong it won't be like Vista which in opinion is still an early beta.

Well I don't think they really introduce new functionality in the noticable sense like whole new abilities or programs when they have minor updates in the 10.5.x. Improvements are generally improving security, performance, stability or compatibility of the existing OS. I suppose Tiger becoming "Universal" and the addition of Rosetta can be consider new functionality although Tiger itself really isn't Universal since there are separate PPC and x86 versions. 10.4.8 introduced a multithreaded OpenGL implmentation, but again that's still essentially building on something existing rather than adding something completely new. Adding new features or redesigning the experience is best reserved for major OS versions due to the thought involved. It doesn't pay for them to risk breaking something in a shipping product either. Changes to applications like iLife and iWork are of course separate from the OS even though iLife is bundled with Macs it isn't included with each OS.

And generally Apple releases a minor revision very quickly after a major OS launch to fix immediate issues. 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4 all had a 10.x.1 revision one month after launch. You could say that indicates they "rushed" the product, but issues will always crop up regardless and it's nice to see Apple respond quickly to build confidence in each major OS version.
