thanks for the heads up downloading now...

Thanks! Downloading now... will post with thoughts after installation.
Here's Apple's list of what was updated...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194 -
So... The install has been frozen at the same point for the last three hours or so...
Should I be worried?

fabarati: The same thing happened to me! Except, it stopped at a much earlier part. I did a hard reset and tried it again... it froze at the same point. I think what happened is that the Software Update downloaded only a part of the full update, so it was trying to install from an update file that wasn't complete.
To fix this, I just downloaded the standalone update:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_6_Update
Installed it from the file and all is now well... -
So it's ok to stop the install? I don't really feel like trying to get data off a ruined install of leopard, using a PC that's hard at work transcoding a very, very large video file. And then reinstalling leopard (it took ages last time, probably due to a werid optical drive).
-
I stopped it TWICE... but then again, my install stopped at a much earlier part of the installation process. It it has been frozen for 3 hours... chanced are, it won't start again. The hard drive has probably parked its heads...
-
Oh, well. I'll just have to risk it then. At least it will give me the excuse to go back to Tiger that I've wanted.
-
Best of luck!
10.5.6 is stable so far... no complaints. No difference from 10.5.5, as far as I can tell. -
Well, what'd you know, I'm running 10.5.6 now as well. All I did (after letting it idle for close to 4 hours) was do a hard reset. I restarted once more whilst booting, and then I was in.
It's still as sluggish as ever, but airport seems to be working better. Will have to test it better when my router is not in compability mode, but at least it reports better range than before. -
The update worked fine for me, I haven't noticed much difference yet...
-
My bluetooth mouse actually connections right away upon wake, not 30 seconds later or whenever it feels like it. It's so smooth now.
-
just finished updating to 10.5.6 on a MBP 2.53 and it went flawlessly
nothing new for now...this update didn't improve anything for now -
, it just stop at installation and do nothing.

I installed from combo package this morning, everything is fine now.
-
Possibly unrelated but after the update I can't get more than 10fps on my 9400m while playing WoW. Weird...(oh but in windowed mode I can get 12fps).
-
works fine here
-
I havnt used my bluetooth mouse yet with 10.5.6, but hopefully the drivers are better now, so it wont lag when the system is under load.
Also there is a new preference pane for the Trackpad, in system preferences. -

Apple did fix this important feature
# Improves the performance and reliability of Chess! -
Verdict after some more use: Bootup is slower, general use is slower, Wifi works better.
All in all, a weird update. -
Installed on both my macbooks. All went fine, and mine feels a bit snappier across the board. No other noticeable differences.

One of the most notable improvements that accompanied yesterday's Mac OS X 10.5.6 update was the delivery of long promised MobileMe Push functionality to desktop and notebook Macs.
Despite advertising their MobileMe service as providing Push services from your Mac, Apple's original implementation only offered intermittent sync services. Apple acknowledged the mistake in an apology letter and said they wouldn't use the term "Push" until it was "near-instant".
Mac OS X 10.5.6 has brought this service much closer to the original description. Apple has updated their technote to describe the process as it stands:
Contacts, calendars, and bookmarks sync automatically (generally within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or on the web at me.com).
The "within a minute" syncing is offered to Contacts, Calendars and Bookmarks alone. Other items such as Mail Notes, and 3rd party applications will only sync on an hourly basis, with some data (Keychains, Mail Rules) syncing every 8 hours. These new benefits are not yet available to Windows MobileMe users whose data still syncs in 15 minute intervals.
Thx to macrumors.com for info -

just what is the purpose of reprinting verbatim from macrumors? it hasn't added to the discussion and it's just mouthing Apple's propaganda. -

I had zero trouble updating, system runs just fine after, and as for a previous poster and their WoW experience, I play WoW a lot and have had zero trouble since I patched. -
Does anyone have VMWare Fusion installed that worked fine on 10.5.5 and then did the upgrade to 10.5.6? Any problems running VMWare Fusion after the update? Need to know before I take the plunge. Got some important data that is backed up and all but don't want to waste time restoring OSX back to 10.5.5 should something go wrong.
-
No problem with the update here. All seems to be working as it should and I haven't noticed any difference good or bad since the update
-
Be careful-it will "kill" your jailbroken iPhone.
-
Another issue that affects everyone: You can no longer change the energy saver profile from the menubar batteryicon. -
-
Apple being apple? That's the only thing that I can think of.
-
oh.. i forgot to tell u guys.
My macbook pro stopped at installation hours (like 5)
I went to Apple site and downloaded it directly and it works.

After update wants me to register - BUT I don't live in USA - but I can't chose other countries? what to do?
-
My trackpad's tap to click for both single and double taps stops working from time to time after the update. Installation was fast and trouble free though.

now it looks like this

That wasn't my computer, I just took a random pic off of a thread on macrumours. My mac got like that with 10.5.6. Apperantly the Late 2008 MB/MBP never had that, but the rest of us did up until now. But it was removed.
I must ask, did you read the first page? I clearly stated my update woes there, along with the fact that in the end, the update was a success. -
fabarati: I noticed that too! It's kind of annoying... but then again, I don't really change my energy profiles very often
-
I do. The G4's get hot. So I have to balance power vs fan-sound and heat, depending on what I do. Now it's not as convinient.
-
. Geez, so many issues in previous posts! ????
. Update lasted 15min on my macbook, with a reboot
. Smooth sailing since day 1!
cheers ... -
also updated mine, about 5 hours ago, no problem whatsoever. the update was quite fast actually, less than 5 mins, actually.
-
I decided to take the plunge in getting the update now... I did a bit of searching around on several forums and no one is reporting problems with Fusion running with the update. Here goes nothing!
-
Just installed the update and everything looks to be business as usual. I did notice that the battery indicator on the menu bar no longer allows you to switch between battery profiles quickly, but that doesn't bother me much.
VMWare Fusion runs Windows XP just like it did before the update, although the virtual machine boot up time seems slightly faster.
Guess time will tell on how the update affects my MBP and usage pattern.
