workgroup is both the word WORKGROUP
there are no firewalls to get in the way of this. I can access the vista machine with leopard, but only if I put in the IP address, and always delete AFP and type in SMB in front instead. It sometimes shows the computers name, but usually not. (Seems to be an issue that apple doesn't care about much).
Is there an easier way to see all the computers on the network besides having a list of IP addresses?
The other issue is the Vista machine can not take any information off of the Leopard machine or even access it.
This has been an ongoing issue. I am even the co-owner in vista of a folder to try to move data to it that way. It starts the transfer and then near the end of the file transfer it just disappears.
Hopefully I can finally figure out how to do this properly as the people at the genius bar at the apple store shrug and just say it should work, regardless that most things I read on the web say it's broken. I'm still trying keep the apple, as I like the interface of it.
Is there any way I just set up a shortcut or something to connect to one computer I do on a regular basis to save so much time and not having to find out it's IP address and such? It is looking less and less like a mac will work for my needs for my next computer.

If I remember correctly, Windows has this thing called 'NetBIOS' that does the name=IP matching. Don't quote me on that, but see if that term helps you find an answer.
