lol even in this day and age, leaked pictures still look like they were taken with the very first camera phone.

IMO, I don't think this is the real deal.

Real or not, it would make sense for Apple to move the iPhone to a similar aluminum model and bring it in line with everything else at the moment (save the Unibody Macbook).

If the "iPhone HD" is what it's going to be called, I could certainly see this form factor being used as it certainly would position it as a premium device.

An aluminum body phone? Uh, that is NOT going to happen. What sense would it make for them to employ an aluminum body for a cell phone?

They will stick to the current hard plastic and the current design with a few minor aesthetic changes.

The first Gen iPhone had a plastic panel section for the antennae, the 3G iPad has a plastic panel section for the antennae, the 3GS and 3G iPhones have all plastic backs (compatible with an antennae).

How all of a sudden could they make an all aluminum back, and have the antennae still work?

    It's fake.

Does the plastic need to be this large? May be it will be behind the apple logo or may be the aluminum is some sort of composite material which enables the signals to pass better.

While I'd personally want that to be the next iPhone, +1 for being fake :( Cellular antennas won't work well through the aluminum backing. That design would effectively shield the antenna on 5 of 6 sides.

However, given the quality of the pics...who is to say that is aluminum for sure? Could be molded plastic with aluminum looking outer layer ;)

So very fake. Even the typeface on the back of the phone is slanted in the second picture, and that kind of grain is also manufactured. And it was run through CS4.... Take that for what it's worth.

WilliamG...your right, the text in the 2nd picture is slanted the wrong way given the angle of perspective.

Yes I know, but it is still unibody and aluminum. Apple could still implement a similar design.

No need to have such a smug attitude.

I don't like a full unibody enclosure, as smart phones tend to heat up after some serious use, and you're looking at a heatsink of a phone (just like the mbp is a heatsink of a laptop)

fake, the artist has came forward and admitted it is not real, and is a rendering he made on 3d studio max while the graininess was added via ps.

4G already? I must be missing out on something major. The major carriers in North America and Europe haven't even gotten 3G fully down yet. Most 3G services in place now don't even include HSUPA. LTE standards are still unclear and being updated. Carriers don't even know what to specifically ask for in terms of features. Now we have magically skipped LTE and jumped into 4G? Marketing gimmick IMO.

I don't get why they would put the FCC stuff on there, since I wouldn't be FCC approved yet. And is most likely a prototype because it is ugly. That's not a Apple design. What's the point of the lines beside the headphone jack and on the side?

in my opinion apple oughta stick to their current design because more and more touch phones are becoming like those 4g concepts so if apple does something significantlly different and similar with samsung star or htc touch with the 4g, its stupid. Apple can stick with the current design, tweak the materials espcially better screen, n wifi and even better internal stickers, and of course maybe the way internal components are placed for blah blah blah reason, and give it a rainbow selection of colors optional since apple's done it with ipods.

edit: i'd like to see a red iphone or a blue one, i'm tired of cases and modded iphones

I doubt it, Apple doesn't leak stuff, they get enough media attention from speculation, if it was leaked the speculation would be over. Also, Apple remotely killed the phone, If they wanted it leaked they wouldn't of killed it.

It`s a pity apple are still using it`s proprietary connector instead of the micro usb that a lot of phone manufactures are starting to use.

Well I can see why they do at this point. A lot of people own ipods/ other devices that have the 30pin dock connectors-- with a lot of accessories made for it. At this point, switching wouldnt make sense.

It's also great for license revenues.

Don't forget old docks don't work w/ newer iPods....that's a fun replacement. Apple could care less about true backwards compatibility. It's the same reason why Sony still won't adopt SD cards.

While I think this is definitely a real design from Apple (basically confirmed at this point), I don't think its the final product yet. Its unlike Apple to have "little lines all over the place" - like next to the headphone jack and halfway down the side.

That said, I liked the 3G-3G S design better :p. If anything, I like my chrome ring!

Poor guy. As if he couldn't suffer the wrath of Steve Jobs (and loss of what was apparently his dream job..because you know that's going to happen....) in peace, but is now being ridiculed all over the internet, and has deleted pretty much every vestige of his online life (email addresses, flicker, facebook, twitter, etc.) I kinda feel sorry for the guy....kinda. Beers plus prototype device don't mix.

Who the hell gets buzzed enough to lose a prototype worth several thousand dollars and would be lusted over by all the competitors, especially off ONE FRIGGEN BEER!

Jobs is going to his mother and kill his father. Hell, he's probably finished cleaning out everyone from the mother's side of the family already.

Apparently, someone from Gizmodo bought it for $10k. The finder should've asked for more imo. :) Apparently they now returned it to Apple, free of charge. Nice, so it's only Apple (or big companies) who are legal to rip off others.

Publicly giving out his name was totally uncalled for. What was the point of that... he should change his name now.

Two words about the whole incident:

    1. Publicity
    2. Stunt

It seems like Apple is taking this to the next level, since they haven't gone this far to "leak" specs of an upcoming popular product, but at the same time it makes a lot of sense, as at this point the iPhone is essentially competing with itself--as well as it's competitors.

This would also be a really good way of getting feedback for the unit by the public.

Or, in double agent fashion, it could be a legitimate REJECTED prototype "leaked" to provide the public with misinformation about the new iPhone.

And even then, it could be a springboard to get public reaction to some of the new features for in/exclusion [though it the june launch projection is accurate, it's probably way too late for that]

It is likely that Apple has more then one prototype going around, who knows. But as for Apple leaking this them selfs, we are talking about a company that makes dev's chain down the iPad and keep it in a room with no windows AFTER it was announced.

    It was only $5k.

How exactly is Apple (or big companies) ripping people off by asking for their property back? It's not Apple's fault or responsibility that Gizmodo shelled out $5k for the phone, nor does that property belong to Gizmodo even if they paid for it.
