Apparently the maximum transfer rate that I get under OS X is 1.5 mb/s which If I'm not mistaken is the same as USB 1.0 speeds? The same thing happened under XP but I installed drivers for it and it registers as 2.0 now. However, try as I might, I can't find the drivers for OS X. Is it just a driver problem or is there something else to it? Does anyone know a relatively simple solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.

What device are you transferring to/from? Perhaps the device requires special drivers.

One of my flash drives doesn't work in OS X period but works in XP. My friend's external hard drives works on both operating systems but only transfers at 1.5 mb/s in OS X yet works perfectly at 2.0 speeds in windows.

The flash drive is an Attache drive from a company called PNY technologies. Even if it required special drivers, it still doesn't explain why the external hard drive worked yet could not transfer at 2.0 speeds in OS X.

Depends on the drive itself. A lot of them are limited to a certain speed. So even though it may be usb 2.0, it may be maxing out at a pretty slow speed. Less then usb2.0 spec.

The thing is, both devices function at 2.0 speeds in XP but seem to be "downgraded" in some way in OS X (in fact, the flash drive doesn't work at all in OS X) .

They aren't all formatted the NTFS by any chance, and you're using Macfuse to access them in OS X?

Both the external HD and the flash drive are FAT32.
