In the past, I used to have an hp pavalion laptop. I usually kept the screen at a little past half brightness and in 3 years, the screen no longer even turns on which means the backlight is dead. The same thing is true for my mother's 17 inch lcd monitor. Now I realize that this may just be bad luck, but I don't want to risk anything with my new macbook.
What's a "safe" level to leave the brightness at? And is the LED long lasting? Is it expensive to replace? I hate dim screens but I don't want this screen to die that fast, I want to make this last AT LEAST 8 years. Yes I keep computers that long lol

You can keep it at 100% brightness as LED backlighting never dims over time (it does but something like 10+ years later it dims slightly) and the life of the LED backlight technology will easily out last your new macbook.

LED's have a very long life cycle. Unless you just get an odd LED failure, these screens don't readily dim over time and are very robust. Set your screen at the brightness that suits you. You won't hurt the life of the screen.
