Has anyone's unibody keyboard started showing signs of this yet?

You know, how on many Dells, HPs, Thinkpads with the black keyboards with shiny spots on the keys after prolonged use.

I'm worried that that will happen to me, and I am patiently waiting for a keyboard cover like the ones that were available for the old gen MBP.

All part of owning a laptop, regardless of manufacturer.

If youre really that picky about it, you can get those silicone skins that go over the keyboard.

Though, its gonna happen with pretty much all keyboards out there, eventually.

Speaking from experience, those silicone keyboard skins are HORRIBLE to type on.

silicone skins look horrible. Also, with time they get yellow (seen some friends using it).

Silicone skins are decent to type on if you get used to it. Wash it often and it won't get yellow. I need the silicone cover on my macbook so the piece of plastic below the spacebar and above the trackpad doesn't permanently scratch the screen when its in my backpack.

If you want the keyboard to last(not be shiny), you might have to make some sacrifices ;p

its grease from our hands and is temporary. When you clean the keyboard, it goes away. The keyboard will not turn shiny that soon. It's still new. :D

First of all, the grammar and spelling of this sentence are atrocious (but that's another issue and simply a pet peeve of mine).

Second, although your "Anal Meter" may be higher than others, there are a lot of people who could care less about buying a used laptop with wear showing on the keyboard. After all, it is a used laptop.

People like this remind me of my grandparents who use to put plastic on the furniture and those hard plastic carpet runners to protect the carpet. You need to stop being AFRAID to use your laptop, and ENJOY using it instead.

You will get a new laptop in 5 years anyway. With my ThinkPad, I have spare keyboards to replace my shiny one. I do not think MB/MBP have replaceable keyboards AFAIK.

I just ordered the Moshi ClearGuard. It's supposed to be 0.1mm thick (versus 0.5mm from most of the competition) and it looks very transparent in the photos I've seen. I hope it works well because my dog sheds a lot.

I've seen some people who use my mbp, and they leave horrible sweat all over it. I guess if someone like that owns a mbp, one of those guards would help. Wouldnt leave all their sweat macs all day long. if they had those things.

i guess the sweat would still be there.. unless the guards make them magically disappear.. but from what i can see, they are just a piece of plastic

i think the sweat would be absorbed(?) into the pad. Ive seen a couple in person, and they kinda like a soft plasticy material.

All i can guess, is that sweat is reacts differently on the plastic laptops that majority of people have, cause the sweaty palm people have plastic laptops, and i dont think they have the same problem.

yeah, thats what i was thinking, that for the aluminum ones or carbon fibre (vaio Z) we wouldnt have this problem..

in the previous macbooks (white and black) it was very apparent the oil stains on the palm rests..

On my old MBP I left sweat on the palmrests all the time. But one wipe with a wet paper towel and it was gone. The finish never deteriorated. I have confidence that the unibody finish will be fine, even to the most sweaty hands of all.

Good read, I'm considering the new MBP and was curious as to what people are doing in regards to the keyboard.
