Hey guys on the macbook pro how do you activate the illumination of the keys? My friend said she was in her room yesterday with the lights off and the keys didn't activate...

System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard. Tick the box.

You don't have to hold down the Fn key. Simply pressing F8, F9, or F10 will deactivate, dim, or brighten the keyboard illumination.

    I have to press Fn.

I guess I changed the setting that lets me use F Keys for apps or something which means I have to Fn to use the hardware keys.

I use function keys all the time in Flash and stuff.

same here, reversing the "f" button default behaviour was the next preference change I made after setting the trackpad to use two finger right click. I like having the first few "f" keys readily available and expose and dashboard also easily available (I actually use dashboard a bit even if it takes up some RAM, worth it IMO)

Helpful topic, thanks all. and arikol: I love dashboard! I don't have mac, but I 'babysat' my friends (she forgot it at my house) for a weekish and loved dashboard
