I got an i7 antiglare 15" (antiglare was only in high end i7 15" at apple store, couldn't wait for it to come through the mail -- not having a functional computer was beginning to effect my work). I still love it, but I don't think I need i7 horse power. I don't game or doing super intense stuff, but if I ever want to, I guess now I have it. Love the matte, especially coming from a 2.66 c2d glassy previous gen (main reason I sold it).

But if I get the i5 base with glass stock everything, it's about 500 cheaper.

    If I get base 13" (c2d I know), it's about 1100-1200 cheaper.

I'm at the 20 day mark and I know return policy is 14 days. Main reason I contemplate swapping it is because I wish I had an SSD, although I'll probably get one eventually for this machine (although not now, need to save funds for Europe).

Thoughts? I think I should just keep it but I dunno. Considering how much I sold my last MBP for ($1900 shipped), the difference ($2300 after edu discount and tax for this i7 15" antiglare) shouldn't be a deal breaker.

    Help? WWYD?

well...how would you do the swap without losing money?

if you were still within the return range, I would have recommended ordering an i5 + Matte machine from Apple.com.

would your plan be to simply sell it?

No. i was considering returning it. but i dunno i think i'll just keep it.

But i5+ matte would have me waiting. the difference is $300, I guess it'll be moot over the use of this laptop (plan to have it for a long time).

yea...a return would incur a restocking fee somewhere between $170 - $230, depending on the final price of that MBP.

I'd keep it at this point.

Yeah for sure. oh well overkill is better than less juice :D

plus the +300 from base to high end was worth it considering I got it immediately. I would have been screwed two weeks ago if I went any longer without a computer for schoolwork.

Dilemma restated taking into account restocking fee:

I have an antiglare i7 15" macbook pro ($2300 after tax and edu discount). I love it, better than my 2.66 c2d 2009 15" I had before that that I sold for a reasonable amount of cash. I don't like the automated graphics switching though for now, they need an update to force integrated. Using discrete for Google Chrome and Skype is absurd.

But I think this thing, considering I don't encode too often or play videogames ever (but am dabbling in Photoshop and prolly audio stuff this summer when I get more free time), might be overkill where I can sell this computer, prolly get most of my money back or break even (the Apple Store wants $214 for repackaging fee that I can't avoid), and get a base 13" 2.4 c2d and keep about $1200 extra in my pocket for Europe this fall (plus getting that consistent 10+ hour charge from the 13" using 320m integrated all the time) and other things (although my bank account isn't in the red or anything but I'm a student).

    Waddya think? Do it? Don't?

I am in a similar situation. I like both the 13" and the 17". I am a student as well, and we should just settle with the 13" and save the rest of our money. But it just depends how comfortable you are financially keeping it, and how much you really care about the graphics issue. I mean you could just use safari/firefox and google talk/ventrillo/cell phone/etc?

people who want 15" are kinda stuck.

if you want the (IMO) superior matte screen, you have no choice but to get the i7. I wouldn't accept the lower resolution as acceptable, but that's because of the work I do.

personally, I wouldn't worry about having too much power. it'll carry a higher resale value and last you longer.
