This is one of their "features" and its also probably the only feature worthy of needing an AV. If you have a mixed network and a Mac that your not 100% sure is always gonna be clean and surfing safely then perhaps for the sake of your PCs this could useful.

But the fact that 99% of Mac malware is in Mac Apps, the chances of a PC user spreading it to you is slim to none. Since they can't run the App, they can't spread it, and vice versa.

Real time scanning is not needed for Mac OS X. If you're paranoid, just run this once in a while.

i don't know why , but i got the feeling that companies that make antiviruses pay smart hackers to make viruses so they can be the first to release the fix on their antivirus program , so an antivirus launch for macs = viruses will arrive for macs soon :D

^Hackers don't want to bother hacking 12% of the market, when they can affect more targets with PC's and can get more important information like business info, personal info, ect. You won't see that many viruses out there until Macs get a higher market share.

I don't see antivirus software as being critical in a UNIX-based OS unless you have root all the time. They're susceptible to malware, but less so than a Windows OS with a primary admin account.

No I think its the other way round. You download a PC virus on your Mac which without AV could allow that virus to get transferred to the PCs... It's a very unlikely situation and requires multiple F ups by users .a :)

Well, some how the PC virus would have to be able to run on the Mac and then transfer it's self to a PC. Highly unlikly.

u don't get my point , i think that companies that make antivirus software pay hackers to make viruses and provide them with the sollution so they can sell their product , provided that they ll be the first people who provide the anti for that virus , don't u find it a little weird that companies that make antiviruses find the solution in less than 24 hours , don't u wonder why ? , i think because they already have the antivirus from the programmer who made the virus before it's actually released :D , this is my theory XD

I tend to stray away from conspiracies. Lol.
It's not hard to figure out how a virus works and get rid of it. But I wouldn't be surprised if some companies do that.

meh viruses are so last decade, its all this bloody malware, keyloggers, trojans and backdoors.

now with safari possibly giving up address books and personal information. and the amount of things being installed handing out personal indformation who cares bout a bloody virus !!!!

sorry having a rant after 3 users installed a " game " which was a nice keylogger and had their bank accounts accessed

nope a few years ago when that .Doc macro virus was such a pain Macs made great typhoid Mary's on a network, the infected files would reside inactive on the macs on the network and then when someone needed that document and the user shipped it over.... we had another infected machine if it was not running a security program and UPDATED of some sorts. took forever to locate all the infected files as the Mac users kept arguing with us IT guys cause its NOT possible they were the cause!!!, and denied us hands on access to their machines.

LOL, we've heard this same lame argument since it was only 1% Mac marketshare. The fact is UNIX isn't easy for the most astute virus writer and some PC fans just won't admit it.

Like to know which hackers you're talking about.
Mac OS X hacked under 30 minutes - Security - News

Macs are easy to hack, but not really worth the effort | Technology | guardian.co.uk

I'm not a "PC fan" so much as someone that can't justify the price of a Mac.
If it's any consolation, I like my iPod Touch.

like I said screw viruses its the rest ... I have been at CanSecWest for 3 years running .. guess which os was the First hacked all 3 years .... and under 5 minutes for 2008, 2009 and 2010.

2009 results here MacBook/Safari Hacked in 10 Seconds

some 2010 info from Charlie Miller http://www.dailytech.com/Charlie+Mi...+OS+X+Exploits+at+CanSecWest/article17934.htm

thats why I always beg users to be careful and not just make assumptions of the security of ANY operating system. you can NOT compensate for the idiot behind the keyboard, even of it is a momentarily lapse of common sense from an experienced user.

and now if it is such a non issue why did Apple slip a little anti-malware into its 10.6.4 update on the sly?

If Trend Micro makes AV for Mac, I'd get it. Good experience with it on my PC.

I've never heard anything negative about it. It was highly rated when I started my subscription in 2007. Been using it since and never had a virus or trojan.

Kaspersky AV for Mac is crappy one. (though it's good on WinDows side.)
Barrier X is the best choice and you can find good free AVs like PC Tools iAntiVirus.
I guess $20 is a little too much.
