Just got through doing a hard drive swap in my MBP, and I had a hell of a time getting the 5 snaps along the front back in. Still looks like there is a small gap on the left side where the hard drive is, but there aren't any snaps there.

    What do you guys think?

Yea.. The apple store replaced my dvd drive (on warrenty) and when I got it back I had a similar crack on the side of the dvd drive. My guess is that you might wanna get in there and make sure that everything fits, and is where its supposed to be?

Kinda sucks how easily it seems it can be pushed out of shape to see cracks.

Had the exact same thing happen when I did this: you've missed a retaining clip or two on the reassembly. I couldn't believe how hard I had to press along that front edge to get them to snap into place, but learned that you can't do it "post" - you need to take the top off so you can angle it in and start again. As I remember there are four clips on the 15", maybe more on the 17" - you'll hear and feel each give a distinctive little pop as it snaps into place. Good luck!

Make sure the retention clips are aligned in the right direction. Current Macbooks products used flimsy plastics, if you even force anything it will break and you will have to buy the clips. Last time I ordered them, it cost about $1 each clip.

Thanks for the replies. I've got another question. The DVD drive makes a crunching noise when I insert and eject a disc, is this normal? It reads just fine and is pretty quite when in operation. Just worried I might have messed it up when I was pressing down on that area to get the clips back in.

Here is a quick video of it. Don't know why it sounds like I'm in a wind tunnel.

I've had the same kind of noise you describe (sorry I'm not downloading anything from a site I don't know) since I got my MBP; seems like it's the mechanism that sucks the CD in. I can't be sure it won't fail tomorrow but no issues so far; I think you're good to go. Did you get the gap fixed?

Just an avi file I took with my camera and uploaded to file dropper.
No, not yet. I have school all day and I will have to go buy a screwdriver - I was at my parent's house yesterday and used my dad's tools. It's not real high on the priority list at the moment since it's so small. Will try to get to it sometime this week.
