    just flipped my mint condition RMB 15 with 2.6 i7 / 16gb ram / 512gb ssd / 1gb 650 for 950£.

the screen was replaced for ghosting by apple so perfect lg screen

the system board was replaced recently under quality care programme.

    Laptop had 88% battery health.

Did I do ok on pricing or did I just give someone a steal ?

That price was probably a bit high for what is essentially a 3-year-old machine, so you certainly made out well.

its what I like to hear! i dont know about rip off - i looked online and plenty of recent acutions for 800-950£, i'd say its fair price according to what others are buying!

even with USD it seems we are looking at 1200-1500$ usd range, i was at about 1370$ which seems ok.

Yes these machines hold value very well, far better than any dell machine.

I actually really want to sell all of my systems but my dilemma is that my mother now uses my old 2012 model and she loves it because the screen size is great for her aging eyes and she's a former SAP developer (She was in Windows alot) so she loves how Macbooks are up and ready to go unlike her window machines (She probably has never used an SSD drive until now actually) and my 2014 model is currently the latest Nvidia Model (I hate AMD with a passion) So I'm just waiting to find something I like, my problem is that there isn't something that has come out yet to my liking.

If apples next release is another AMD I am going to in fact either migrate to dell XPS or something else that has a mid Nvidia 9-series card or better...

Yeah i have to admit, the RMBP 2012 was really a fantastic purchase. It was truly ahead of its time and served me well - held its value as well. The Nvidia 650 GT was a good card also, plenty of grunt for the time and lasted well despite its 1gb video memory.

It would appear they lost the plot with AMD chips, from what I read its very much incompatible with windows 10, i would not really want to buy a macbook today, also several generations behind on cpu/ gpu..

2012 was the right time to buy in the end - nowadays Apple really need to pull something out of their hat to differentiate the MBP line again.

Of course i've gone back to a windows machine for gaming and i míss the screen and build quality of the RMBP - lets be clear it is far superior on that 3.5 year old machine than it is on my current new (mostly plastic) alienware.

Apple are still the best in terms of build quality, and mobile OSes, that is apparent in the resale value of this machine. They need to come out with skylake and new gpu machines, like pronto however (i sold my RMBP with the skylake refresh in mind)

What is apparent is that given the relatively high cost of new Apple hardware, people will pay more for used Macbooks/Apple products in general, than for a comparible, used, Windows machine. Whether they are better built is somewhat debatable, given the number of Macbooks with burned out MB's from that period, which my local repair shop has stacked in the corner. They do a lucrative business by fixing them up and selling them on, apparently.

well mine had the motherboard replaced December for graphics card problems so it won't burn out. I agree with the theory though

By the standard of other consumer grade laptops, yes. Compared to business class laptops or ruggedized laptops, not very good. MacBook in my world is not Pro, is not built for ruggedness nor for reliability under demanding loads. And Apple service is not next business day which comes to you, nor can the Apple have accidental damage coverage. You want build quality, I'd put a good Lenovo ThinkPad, HP EliteBook, Dell Latitude, or Fujitsu LifeBook over anything Apple has ever built since the G3 WallStreet models. And these machines have spare parts available, and don't require factory service depots to maintain. Pretty does not equal well made or durable. That said, I like OSX a lot, but not Apple laptops, seen too many fail too soon in my world.

Give me a break! since when Dell and Thinkpad are reliable? I have owned multiple Thinkpads and while they are rugged they are not by any means reliable + their support is sub par even for businesses.

My T 510 is still like new and running, my Latitude E 5510 is still running strong. I can repair them, upgrade them by myself. I am rougher on laptops than most everyone here. Business Rugged has a specific Military Specification that no Apple will pass. I don't baby my tools, I try to take care of them, but spastic, cerebral palsied me kills MacBooks much quicker than he kills business class or ruggedized machines. This is my experience. MacBooks are CONSUMER GRADE, they are not professional grade. I like them as consumer grade machines (provided they get babied and treated with kid gloves) YMMV. When Apple will build me a machine which meets the requirements of Business, with Next Business Day warranty repair and support, which I do not have to drive 50 miles one way for, or ship to a depot, then Apple will get my business at work and at home. I need tools, I need reliable and rugged. My machines have real workload to handle, which must be stable, and not overheat them. Apple needs to offer a Business Class offering which is field maintainable, as they now are being deployed in business to some degree. Otherwise, they will require a lot of shipping and a lot of spare machines bought for business fleets, and high total cost of ownership.

Used Macs always seem to cost more in the UK. You would have probably gotten $1000 at most here in the US.

Man, according to me you made a great deal for yourself. As someone else in this thread said, I'd personally never buy a three year old computer for that money.
