hi, i've just returned a brand new MBP to apple, because it is broken. (ticking computer, and flickering magsafe adapter with the ticking noise also.)

i'm wondering, would apple sends me another brand new MBP straight from the factory, or are they gonna send me a refurb machine? the reason i ask is because i get a replacement sunglasses from oakley, and they send me an oily sunglasses, which lead me to believe that it is a refurb one.

btw, could this (ticking) problem be damaging my conected USB peripherals? such as externa HDD and mouse?

Probably brand new. I've known several people to return brand new hardware to apple and every time it's replaced by brand new hardware.
Did you write down the serial number of the one you had before? The easiest way to make sure you get a new one is to reference it against your previous serial number. It may be a little lower, but anything drastic and you know it's been around a while.

The ticking is probably the hard drive, which shouldn't damage anything else.

btw, do anyone knows what apple will do to my old one? should i be worried about my data? the computer is still clean, but it got my name and contact detail from adress book.

When you get your replacement, pop off the battery. The serial number should be printed in that space.

When they refurbish the machine, they (theoretically) should do a secure format of all data that was on the defective machine's hard drive. If they do a regular format, it's possible that someone who really knows what they're doing could recover data. I would find that unlikely, though.

yes, lets just hope, i wonder where cashmonee is? he got plenty of replacements from apple.

thanks for being patience with me guys!

yes i hate doing business with oakley australia, their head of service is downright a b*tch (she's a girl)! that doesn't respect customer, she even dare to raise her voice at me, unbelievable. they even said that they will not honour the warranty anymore, after they replaced my sunnies, eventhough i still have my warranty left. utterly unbelievable

btw, if you guys want to know the story... i got a sunglasses X-Metal Juliet and after a while, it develops the mirror "iridium" coating on the lense is flaking off. also there is this discolouration on the frame hinge. so i then paid the postage to get them to oakley to have them repaired, so they supposedly replaced the lens, and when i got it back, there were multiple small scratches/chipped/dents, on the frame. because the colour of the frame is black, i can see the chipping/dents quite easily. also, the hinge begins to fail, the material that makes the fram goes smooth has suddenly decides to disintergrate itself.. then i paid another postage fee to get them to service my sunnies again, then after that i get it back, but this time, the frame was not isometric anymore and i found it painfull to ,and also the hinge is very very tight. but they said it was "within spec". anyway, fast forward.... i fought with them and in the end (with the help of the dep. of consumer protection) they send me this sunglasses which is in a greasy conditions; which leads me to believe it is either a refurb, or it is a by-product of the manufacturing process. well.. i know i shouldn't take it and ask for a refund instead, but i was so in love with the sunnies...
