So I got the base model 15" MBP and I wondering if I should get This hard drive. It seems like a steal.

Also any other things I should get for it? Such as cases, keyboard covers. This is my first laptop so I don't know what to expect.

If you're planning on putting the hard drive inside of the MBP and not looking for external storage then you are going to need a 2.5" drive instead of the 3.5" drive you have picked out which is for desktop computers.

Buy this instead if you want a large 2.5" replacement for your MBP:

    Congrats on your purchase. :)

Unfortunately, the HDD in that link will not work in your MBP. You need a 2.5" HDD like burningrave101 mentioned. Good luck. :)

I might just deal with the stock one. Then when SSD goes down, I will jump on that. =D

    What kinda covers/cases you use?

speaking of routers.. I used to tell everyone to NOT get Apple airport routers, because they were the same thing just more expensive.... but after having all my dlinks and netgears and linksys routers over the years barely last a year or two, I finally got an Apple Airport (the current 802.11n one) router... and I must say, just like their computers, this thing is awesome... great features, easy to set up... works wonderful with tons of stuff I do... Don't think I'll ever go back to a non-Apple router again, well worth the extra price.

DLink DIR-655. Best bang for the buck router you can get if you want Gigabit. If not that Linksys will work quite well especially with DD-WRT or Tomato.

I thought when it came to macbooks you cant upgrade HDD or is that Ram you can upgrade yourself??

If so, if i buy the 13inch basic macbook bro, can i upgrade to the ram and HDD since it will be a lot cheaper...

Both components are user upgradeable. Apple includes directions on how to do so in their manual.

I dunno man. I guess everyone has a different experience as I haven't had any problems with other routers.

Granted I've only used Buffalo routers and I'm still using the same one I got like 3 years ago. Also I love DD-WRT

the longest I've ever had a router go without some type of problem is almost.. close to two years... most of mine have died like right at one year.. and most of the companies support is terrible.

I had a dlink router once that the wireless died on, the rest still worked... I contacted dlink to get it warranty replaced and they refused because i did not have the original receipt. They claimed they had to have this because they have to tell if its under warranty still. I explained to them the model of router it was they only started selling 8 months ago, at the time they all had 3 year warranties, there were none in existence that were too old to be out of warranty, but then the guy is "well without the receipt we can't know that" ... 2 supervisors up weren't any smarter... a year previous to that they had no problems replacing a dead one for me without a receipt, so I didn't think to keep a buncha proof.

but anyways, just saying, Apple does make great products, and their current $179 MSRP 802.11n router is awesome, better than the last $149 linksys I had.... and when there is a problem with it, at least I know Apple takes care of their customers. Amazon has them for $169.
