Just installed Tiger (10.4.6) on my wife's iBook G4.

    Have a couple of questions.

    1. Dashboard
    a. Do the widgets only come out when the dashboard icon is clicked? Is there a way to have the widgets on the desktop?
    b. The weather widget only allows locations within the US. Is there a way to get a weather snapshot for a location outside the US? The widget by the way is linked to accuweather.com.

    2. When I checked software update a 10.4.10 version is available for installation. I've read a couple of posts that the 10.4.10 version can sometimes screw up the machine's wifi (airport) capabilities - is there credibility to this?

Is there a way to download the 10.4.9 version from any other credible/reputable site? Would you guys recommend going to 10.4.10 directly?

    Thanks in advance.

    1.
    a. I don't know about dashboard ... i don't really think they can be displayed by default on the desktop ... however.. u can install Yahoo Widgets.. they have quite a few nice widgets that mount on the desktop
    b. they definitely have a weather widget that works for europe atleast.. i dn't knw about other places

    2. Yes 10.4.10 has reportedly some issues for some computers... however it's very difficult to say whether you'll be one of the people facing issues with airport ...
i don't know whether you've done a clean install with 10.4.6.. incase you have.. then i suggest that you definitely go ahead and get the 10.4.10 update ....
ahmm.. in the event you've done an install over panther .. i'ld suggest doing a bit more research in apple discussion forums for people who might have suffered this issue ... and see whether you find any ppl with similar hardware facing this issue
though in all honesty .. it's really difficult to say whether you'll be one facing issues post the installation ... i'ld say ... go ahead and install the update...

zambie - i did a clean install (erase & install) of the 10.4.6.
Sam - Thanks for the link. I'll definitely go over the article. Did you use the weather widget included in the dashboard? I can't seem to get the one in the dashboard to work outside the US.

I checked out apple's site. Saw that 10.4.9 is still available for download. I might go to 10.4.9 first...

i have an ibook g4 running 10.4.10 and have no wireless issues, it has be perfect since the day i got it.

i also have the default weather widget included with tiger working with non us cities, particularily canadian cities.

and you can enable a development hack to let you use the dashboard widgets on your desktop, but i don't remeber where i saw it. and although they are only displayed when you invoke dashboard, they are technically always running as they retain there place in ram.

RadcomTxx! Welcome back! Haven't seen you here in so long! :p

Yeaps, I'm using the default Weather widget. Just type in the city that you're nearest to, its not limited to USA. I just tested it again, I have Vancouver, Toronto, Paris, London, they're all fine.

I got the weather widget to work with locations outside the US.

I'll most likely go with 10.4.10. Hopefully there will be no wireless issues. In the unfortunate event that wireless is screwed up can the system be rolled back to either 10.4.9 or 10.4.6?

I also have to check if I can load up iLife from the Panther install disc that originally came with the machine coz when I did a clean install (erase & install) of Tiger - iMovie, iDVD, and iPhoto were nowhere to be found. Apparently its included in iLife. So I'll see if I can just pull out iLife from the Panther disc.

Went with 10.4.10. So far so good. No wireless issues noted so far.

    Thanks for the help.
