I just got my mbp in today!!!! This is an upgrade from a Powerbook Ti (400mhz) that I've been using for the past week. Before that I had a Lenovo n100 (the worst laptop ever built).

    Here are the specs:

    2.16 c2d
    2g ram
    glossy

for 1911.xx shipped (1739.xx bf tax) LA taxes are the worst!

    Is this a decent price?

How the hell did you get that price? I got mine for $2,038 for base+glossy screen+AppleCare. You got an excellent deal. And I had the education discount!!!! I'm sure NYC taxes are even worse though...8.25% the last time I checked. Where did you get it?

    $1599 mbp
$140 ram upgrade adc price ($175 for students)
    $157.86 9% tax
    $15 2-day shipping

The adc membership was not included so I guess 2011.xx but I didn't get applecare. How much did you pay for it? $249?

Just a note on taxes... try 25% (Sweden) ;)
And probably even worse in other places, I'm sure. So those 8% in NY look pretty good to me... :)

Things are definitely cheaper in the US, enough so that it's sometimes worth the trip there even. Pretty scary when you think about it.

Anyway, back on the main topic: that's a great price, congrats :)

Since the topic's already highjacked, what're the other taxes like in Sweden?

Hmm... well, VAT as stated above is 25% for many things, though some things like food and books and stuff have their own (lower) VAT. Income tax is around 30% until some certain treshold, haven't met that treshold yet myself so not sure where it is (not to mention that I don't pay taxes in Sweden now anyway since I don't live there currently).

In general, taxes are fairly high but we do get some nice social services back from it (college education is free, healthcare mostly free, things like that). To each their own however, I don't want to start a debate on politics or taxes here ;) If you have more questions, try Google or send me a pm :)

Well since I'm libertarian, I'm against taxation of any kind, since taxation, by nature, is NOT with my consent.
