Was out with my cousin at the apple store and with his student discount i got the following:

    mb 2.16 120gb
    ipod 80gb
    3yr applecare

    for £845.

Then i came home and checked the rumours site and they are saying a new macbook is rumoured for 6th Nov. Further research (god bless google!) seems to indicate that apple tend to use 14 days as their 'goodwill' period for swapping machines etc for new ones.

Now heres the issue.. i fly to NY on saturday prior to the rumour date, and return on Nov 10th at night unable to get me across to the apple store in time to make it on the 14th day!

Basically have i made a mistake buying a macbook today? Today was the last date for me to get £85 rebate on the ipod which made a big diff to the price as i needed one anyway - hence the purchase now.

Not bothered if the upgrade is a new processor - but will be REALLY annoyed if its a titanium machine with backlit keyboard!!

(BTW if anyone is going to the apple bluewater store try and speak to Darren - he was absolutely brilliant as a salesman today!)

They got new ones coming out that have a refresh look - hence the exact look of the new iMacs. Also with Leopard included.

You made a big mistake if getting the newest was your priority!

If you don't need one right now and want the new version then I would return it for store credit or cash. They definitely should update the Macbooks soon. The Intel GMA 950 is pretty dated...

If they were to update the macbook, it would probably be with the Santa Rosa platform and the x3100 graphics. And no, it won't be a new processor and we probably won't see backlit keyboards as Apple likes to keep a distance between the MB and the MBP. Also, they probably wouldn't make a titanium MB. That would be too expensive!

I would definitely take it back, even if just for a credit. I would wait and see what is coming out soon since there is so much rumour about Macbook being updated.

only thing is my cousin is not about after this weekend so no more 14% discount or cheap apple care or £85 ipod refund!

damn it .... mac rumours seem to suggest only minor revisions in store. my chance my arm and then if something does appear worthwhile having it will be a few phone calls from the US to apple Uk to get a 1 day extension!

My macbook works great. Those are great specs on your machine. If you like it, why get rid of it?

Its really hard to say...there have been rumours of a MacBook update soon but given how close Penryn is (early 2008, possibly January), Apple might just wait until then to update the MacBook right away with Penryn. So, its really hard to say.

But if you can wait, I don't see why you shouldn't. However, expect the update to be January, so if it happens in November "consider it early". If you can't wait until then, just keep your current MacBook.
