I did it after not having an apple since 2000 I went out and bought a 13" MBP to replace my Dell XPS M1210. I bought the basic model 2.4GHz 4GB Ram and 250GB HD. I will be getting a 500GB 7200RPM drive off of NewEgg to replace the standard 250GB Drive. For now 4GB of ram will be good for me. So is there anything I should do to optimize OS10.6.5? Is there any must have applications and is there a good free anti virus program for mac? I use Avast for my PCs. I will eventually Dual boot windows 7 with BootCamp for some games but will mostly use Mac OS. To the MBP is the best 13" NoteBook on the market. The only thing I wish was that the screen res was a little higher.

Mac OSX is already optimized out of the box and will stay that way. I believe it cleans itself up and maintains itself.

In the 5 years I have owned a Mac, I have never, EVER used antivirus software, and have never had a virus, period. Even if visiting websites with tons of popups/spyware etc...(mainly for those streaming online shows), I have never had any issues.

I'd say to best optimize performance, you get a 500 gb hard drive/ SSD hybrid drive, like the Seagate Momentus XT. They are not much more expensive and are worth the extra $$$.

if your going to buy a 500gb hard drive.. get one of those Seagate Momentus XL drives... much faster than a standard drive since they have Flash memory onboard to cache the most accessed info.

8gb of ram is also pretty cheap these days too.. like $130ish?

Sounds good guys. I will go with the 500 GB drive and may be 8GB of ram.
