Whener I leave my MBP idle for a few moments, the brightness of the screen lessens a little bit. Is this normal? Or is there something I need to do to fix it? Thanks.

Yep, normal. Its to conserve battery. I find it annoying when i'm reading something, but its good that it does it. Leave it long enough and it'll turn it off completely before going to sleep.

Even though I have it plugged in?

You can disable it by opening Energy Saver, then clicking on the Options tab.

Its normal the reason it does it is to save battery power -
I have the impression that it's not good for the backlight because it's fluctuating between low and high voltages.
