Is there a problem or is apple just not good for games?

Hey, i purchased my macbook pro a month ago, and so far so good, i mainly got it for school and photography. I'm completely satisfied with the mac in both of these applications.
Well today i tried command and conquer generals(mac edition)put it in my documents and loaded it for the first time.
I put the mac at 1024 X 768 as well as the game and put on medium settings.
I shut off all other programs.
The little videos seemed ok but when i started to actually play, i still found it to be slow and choppy.
Now This is an old game, shouldn't a brand new 2000$ mac be able to handle it??
I understand that mac is not for gaming but i was shocked.
Now could it be that im doing something wrong is there more then one way to install it? or whats going on?

any input would be greatly appreciated thanks

Does the game say anything about the minimum hardware requirements, especially when it comes to the graphic card? Did you make sure you have the latest graphic card driver?
Your Mac surely should be able to handle a old game, IF the game portation is done well and all drivers are running smoothely.. also is there an update and/or bugfix for that game available on the manufacturers page? good luck!

Chances are the game is not a univeral binary, and therefore is running on Rosetta, the OS X PowerPC emulator. It's like running the game while running another operating system at the same time - hence the slowdown.

It looks like there's a patch which makes the game universal: http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=18132

scyzoryk_o4, make sure that any program you run on your Intel-Mac has Universal Binary support. Otherwise it runs in Rosetta, and generally most things run very poorly in Rosetta.
