I'm a college student looking to buy a Black Macbook. The laptop will be used for word processing and surfing the net. Should I wait for Leopard even though I probably won't use most of the new features? Perhaps I can buy a new Macbook now and upgrade to Leopard with a student discount? I really want a new Macbook now. :D

Well, Centrino Pro (formerly known as Santa Rosa) is arriving in a few months, and most people are expecting a refresh to the Mac lineup around May or June...can you wait?

Anyways, no, there is no confirmed ship date to Leopard. Some say they're delayed, others say they're almost done. Rumours, rumours!

No I can't wait until May or June for Santa Rosa. I have a $250 off American Express credit card promotion that expires at around April. :(

I guess it's time to pull the trigger and buy a new Macbook. :D

How about you get an iPod now with that credit card, and get the MacBook later? :D

Even though I love my Thinkpad X30, it's just not fast enough for me. It's a 1.2ghz P3-Mobile with 512MB of RAM. I also want to have a widescreen laptop. :D

Buy when you need or are sick of waiting. What ever comes out down the road is not going to be THAT big a jump. As for Leopard, you will want to get it, only problem is that it is nowhere near finished from what I hear and is likely to be released in June at WWDC.

Why don't you just go to like a apple store and buy something that is $250 and not open it...then go refund it and wait until your card expires and they ought to give you apple credits back for sure. AND THEN $250 towards ur new lappy YEA! :eek2:

Admittedly it's a rumour, but ThinkSecret is reporting that Leopard may be ready as early as late March.

I really want a macbook, but im hoping holding off till the new ones is going to be the right thing to do. Does anyone know if they are going to be priced much more than the recent ones?

The good thing about Apple is they completely replace all older models with their newer ones, which means prices don't change. Maybe they'll even drop a little.

As you can see, Apple does not have "dates", especially not ones that're "confirmed".
