    Hello,

I bought a new macbook and i need to prevent adsense ads. In windows there is a hosts file that you can edit to resolve adsense ad server to 127.0.0.1

Is there a smiliar file or any other way to resolve a hostname to local ip?

    thanks

Well there is a hosts file (in /etc/hosts) BUT... OS X uses it as a kind of last resort, unlike a typical UNIX system. OS X uses lookupd and Netinfo (I looked into that when Youtube was blocked down here in Brasil and editing /etc/hosts did nothing). You can try either changing the order OS X uses to give /etc/hosts a higher priority or add the addresses you need in Netinfo... and give it a higher priority as well. This is a strange design by Apple if you ask me.
