To owners out there, can you kindly verify using HWinfo?

Panelook says the 13" retina display is 8 bit, but the information on the both the 13" and 15" is sparse.

I havnt bothered to look at HW, but Apple forums say so. however IF it is an 8 bit panel it isn't that good and I suspect a 6 with some form of software interpolation. it really falters to 8 and 10 bit panels I have on desktops and laptops and it isn't consistent enough at times, which could be a driver issue or interpolation errors like I used to get on a couple Mac Pros.

Thank you, then it most probably is a 6 bit display which uses a dithering to achieve 8 bit color like you mentioned, hence not a true 8 bit display.

I forgot about this thread, both the 13 and 15" are in actuality 6 bit panels with dithering to 8 according to the panel information. not a lot of true 8 bit panels it seems anymore.
