Is the iPad 3G sold in the U.S. identical to those sold in other countries (for example: the Netherlands)?
The reason for asking is the possibility of a friend bringing an iPad from the US for substantially less than those sold locally. Ofcourse this is only interesting if I'm able to use a Dutch simcard in the iPad once he gets back. So, basically: is the iPad carrier locked and if so, are they unlockable? Thx

I think its locked to AT&T. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9149858/Why_Apple_stuck_with_AT_T_for_iPad_and_will_it_work_

I'm not sure about the US, but Canadian iPads are not SIM locked at all.

In the US I'm pretty sure it is locked to AT&T. Exclusivity deal, same as the iPhone.

Its locked unless jailbroken

That's rather confusing, because on other forums they claim it will work fine.
"In case still wondering on this question, I bought my iPad 3G in the US ( Palo Alto Apple Store ) and have it since working now with a Vodafone UK SIM with no problem. I just had to cut the SIM following the reference of the ATT microsim that came inside the iPad itself and with some help of Google Images" (Jjuan, 2010)
and:
"I purchased my iPad in the US and I recently was in England and I am now in France. While in the UK, I went to an O2 store and obtained a Microsim card from O2 AT NO COST. Once I connected the iPad to a computer with Itunes (a real pain while traveling without another computer) I had to set up an account and a system of paying (again not easy without a UK credit card), my iPad became a UK iPad -- using the O2 network for 3g connection at the local rates" (andy P, 2010).
Anyone with first-hand experience around?
